Residents deal with flooded streams. Four inches or more of rain poured out of the clouds last Thursday causing small streams to flood their banks and look like a river. Residents who have to cross these flood swollen streams have to wait several hours before they can get in or out sometimes. The flood water also leaves behind a lot of damaghe to resident’s bridges.
Portion of Camp Northward to be annexed into the city. The portion to be annexed would include land up to the city’s water plant.
New flower shop thriving. Becky Fogle the owner of Becky’s Flower Basket which opened on February 1 has been very busy. Even though Becky is sole owner, all of the family, including her husband Bobby, and many friends have been supportive in helping out at the store.
Proposed beltway around Cincinnati would come through Pendleton County. The first leg of the 180 mile Appalachian Beltway around Cincinnati would start in Butler County, Ohio circle around through Georgetown, Ohio, cross through Bracken, Pendleton, Grant, Owen and Carroll counties in Kentucky and cross into Dillsboro, Aurora and Lawrenceburg in Indiana, at a cost of about $1,638,000,000.
Ladycats are runner- up in district as they had their nine game winning streak ended in the district final with a loss to Mason County 17- 10. The Ladycats beat Bracken County 17- 16 in the district opener. Coach Gary Florence said, “...we’ve come a long way this season and I hope we can catch some teams looking past us in the regional.” Tara Cox, Mandy Butler and Jennifer Pierson were named to All District Team.
Live music at Kincaid Lake when Kentucky Express performs at the park on Saturday, May 25. Live music will begin at 8 p.m. and continue through 11 p.m.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mattie Hunt Courtney of near Falmouth, wife of Melvin Courtney, were held on Wednesday, May 12, 1971 at the Woodhead and Son Memorial Funeral Chapel, Falmouth, by Rev. Carl Sears.
Mrs. Thelma Miller of Alexandria announces the engagement of her daughter, Shirley Lee to Mr. Dennis Seever, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Seever of Butler.
The Rebecca Bryan Boone Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, held the May neeting at the home of Mrs. Warren Shonert. Mrs. Warren Schonert was installed as Regent to serve for a three year term.
The children and grandchildren of Roy Abercrombie gathered at the home of their father Sunday May 9 for a picnic dinner in honor of Master Sgt. Leroy Abercrombie and family, who have just returned from Spain after three years of duty there with the Air Force.
The following birth has been recorded at St. Luke Hospital. Born to Ronald and Jo Ann Strasinger of California a baby girl, May 6.
75 Years Ago - May 1946
James F. (Terry) Marquis, assistant principal at the Butler High School and sponsor of the graduating class this month, left Tuesday for Camp Kilmer, NJ, where he will be stationed with the U.S. Army. Mr. Marquis, who has been a member of the Army Reserve since 1933, retains the rank of captain.
Wiley Humphrey Ellis was born on July 8, 1865 at Pleasant Hill, the son of James and Sarah Beckett Ellis, eighth of ten children, two of whom survive him. He departed this life April 24, 1946.
Mr. and Mrs. James H. Smith who reside on the J. W. Wright farm four miles from Falmouth, are receiving congratulations upon the arrival of a fine 10 lb. baby daughter on May 1, 1946. She will answer to the name of Emma Marianne.
John K. Conner was killed in an automobile accident near his home in Claysville when his car collided head on with a transfer truck on Friday night. William Batte, who was riding with him was injured.

H. D. (Chip) Wadsworth, L&N conductor was seriously injured at 2:45 a.m. Sunday night in the Corbin Railroad Yards, when he was struck by an engine.
Born to the wife of Plumus Wells of near Goforth on May 5, 1921, a fine 9 lb. daughter. The little miss has been named Elizabeth Louise. This is the third heir.
Lyle Houston passed away last Friday morning at the home of his neice, Mrs. George Pribble, near Mt. Hope, where he was visiting.
Mrs. George B. Moneyhon passed away at her home on the Dutch Ridge Pike near Augusta on Thursday morning, April 28, 1921.
Peter Scharfenburger, a highly esteemed and aged citizen, passed away suddenly at the home of his son, Peter Scharfenburger, at Catawaba on April 27, 1921.
Mrs. John Woods Jr. passed away Wednesday following a protracted illness of tuberculosis.
