25 Years Ago - May 1996

    Falmouth Police will be strictly enforcing city’s junk and nuisance ordinance. If you’ve got junk piled up, old inoperative cars sitting around, garbage, excessive growth of weeds better get it cleaned up or be cited to court.
    Severe thunderstorms, hail and wind rage through the county over the wekend. Rain, rain,and more rain seems to be the weather forecast lately. A hail storm hit the area Saturday around 5:45 p.m. dumping golf ball sized hail all over the area and knocked down a large tree on Mill Street in Butler.
    Mary Colleen Coleman will participate in graduation ceremonies at Northern Kentucky University on Saturday, May 11. She will receive her Bachelor of Social Work Degree with a minor in Sociology. She completed a senior year internship at the Pendleton County Family Resource Center under the supervision of Lora Yelton Young, counselor. Mary Colleen is the daughter of Thomas and Linda Coleman of Falmouth.
    Former Pendleton County resident has movie made about his life and finding his natural mother. CBS movie, “Our Son the Matchmaker,” will air at 9 p.m. on May 8. The movie is based on the true story about Mark Kitts, who was a former resident. Mark is the adoptive son of Gene and Linda Kitts. Brother Kitts was pastor at Antioch Mills Christian Church several years ago.
    McDonald’s now has Bingo for senior citizens. Seniors can play 8:30- 10 a.m. the first and third Mondays of each month. Seniors can win bingo money that can be cashed in for food and socialize with friends.
    David Turner, a three year starting guard for Pendleton County, has been chosen to play on the Kentucky Junior All Star basketball team this summer.Turner averaged 19 points, four assists and four steals per game this past season. The team will be coached by Eddie Ford, father of Travis Ford, former UK Wildcat. David’s older brother Talbert Jr. also played for the team in 1983.
    Joey Galloway swept first place in all four events he entered at the North Central Kentucky Track Conference Meet in Frankfort.
    Allison Flaugher, in the middle school division, took home top honors winning all of her events.

50 Years Ago - May 1971

    Charles Junior Brown, age 65, of Morning View, passed away Saturday, April 24 from injuries suffered in a car accident in Pendleton County last Friday.
    Howard Snodgrass, son of the late Walter and Anna Grebb Snodgrass, passed away on Monday, April 26, 1973.
    Millard (Brownie) Anderson, age 74, of California, passed away on Wednesday, April 21.
    John C. B. (Brack) Marquette, passed away on Friday, April 23.
    Gilbert Martin Jr. of Southgate, passed away Sunday, April 25.

75 Years Ago - May 1946

    The Grand Jury in the Pendleton Circuit Court was dismissed Monday by Judge J. C. Dedman without returning a single indictment during the April term of court.
    Mrs. Martha C. Barnard, aged 80 years, widow of the late Henry J. Barnard, passed away Wednesday April 18, 1946, at the home of her niece Mrs. Cleo Hill, at Flagg Springs, Campbell County.
    Johnathan DaWalt aged 88 years, former president of the First National Bank at Dry Ridge, passed away on Thursday, April 18, 1946, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Howell.
    Mr. and Mrs. George England are rejoicing over a fine little eight pound three ounce son, born Thursday April 4, 1946. The little man will answer to the name of George Webster.

100 Years Ago - May 1921

    Last Sunday the death angel visited our congregation and took from us our head deacon and faithful brother, W. R. Thornberry. He had been a member of the New Zion Baptist Church 40 years. He was 64 years, two months and 19 days of age.
    Born to the wife of Howard T. Fields of near Neave on April 19, 1921, a fine little eight pound son, who will answer to the name of Demaree Earl. This is the first heir and papa is only able to get about with the aid of two crutches. Mrs. Fields was formerly Miss Ethel Brown.
    Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Manuel of Butler have been entertaining a little son at their home since April 21, 192. The little man has been named Clarence Douglas.
    Born to the wife of Wilbur Owen of Butler on April 22, 1921, an extra fine little son. This is the first addition and they named him Wilbur Jr.
