PC Schools releases information comparing academy versus traditional homeschooling

Pendleton County Schools release a table giving parents information to compare their PC CARES Academy with traditional homeschooling that parents could choose each and every year.

The graphic covers seven areas: Enrollment, Financial Obligation/Curriculum/Instructional Materials, Attendance, Student Progress, Diplomas, Athletics/Extra Curricular Activities and Academic Support.

Enrollment: Academy students are enrolled in PCS and earn credit for successfully completed coursework and eligible for all benefits of being a PCS student. Traditional homeschool students are not students of PCS and not eligible for the benefits such as free meals, athletics, and online programs.

Financial Obligation/Curriculum/Instructional Materials: Traditional Homeschool means the parents are responsible for all purchasing of curriculum. PCS covers the cost of the programs/instructional materials utilized for assessment and instruction.

Attendance: PCS maintains attendance records in the PC CARES Academy while parents/guardian must keep maintain attendance records in Traditional Home Schooling. In both, 1,062 of instructional hours are required.

Student Progress: Parents/Guardians must record and maintain reports of each student's progress in Traditional Homeschooling. Certified teacher will maintain records of said student's progress.

Diplomas: Students in Traditional Homeschool do not receive a diploma recognized by the Ky Dept of Education. Students who have met the established graduation requirements of PCS via the PC Cares Academy receive a high school diploma.

Athletics/Extra Curricular Activities: Traditional Homeschool students are not permitted to participate in PCS athletics or extra curricular activities. For PCS students attending the PC Cares Academy, students can participate in athletics and extra-curricular activities as long as they maintain eligibility.

Academic Support: Students in PC CARES Academy will have a certified teach avaiable for questions and assistance during a normal school day from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Parents/Guardians administering the Traditional Homeschooling will be responsible for providing academic support for their child.
