25 Years Ago - January 13, 1998
A 14-year-old and a 15-year old juvenile were taken into custody on January 8 for the vandalism at Phillip $. Sharp Middle School near Butler. Kentucky State Police Trooper Mike Keeney has charged the two juveniles with burglary, theird degree, criminal mischief, first degree, both of which are felony charges, and theft by unlawful taking under $300. The theft charge is a misdemeanor.
Chris Kellar, 20, and his two daughters, Courtney, one, and Danielle, six days, perished in this mobile home fire on January 7. Falmouth Fire Department responded to the fire on HWY 1054 at 2:13 a.m. Two other children were rescued from the mobile home by their grandfather, and one child escaped on her own.
Pendleton County Judge/Executive Don Mays told fiscal court members Jan. 8 that the jail committee had asked Architecture Plus, Inc., to do a feasibility study for upgrading the present jail with a new addition and a parking garage. Mays told those in the courtroom that the jail committee had been in discussions about a jail, but they had never looked at a location anywhere yet.
Henry bertram, age 48, has filed the necessary paperwok to run for Pendleton County Judge/Executve. He is a life-long member of Pendleton County where he served the people of the community as a businessman and a friend.
50 Years Ago - January 12, 1973
Pendleton High School band, under the direction of James Schweitzer, has been invited to perform at Regent's Hall at Northern Kentucky College, Highland Heights, on Thursday evening, January 18th, at 8 p.m.
Representing Pendleton County at the 1973 Kentucky County Fair's Association at Stouffer's Inn in Louisville Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, January 18, 19, and 20, will be Miss Kathy Colvin, 16, Miss Pendleton County Fair. Miss Colvin will be accompanied to Louisville by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Colvin of Falmouth, Mr. Fred Hafer, President of the Pendleton County Youth Fair, and other members of the Official Fair Board.
Kentucky Park Development Associationwill hold its annual meeting Thursday evening, Feb. 1, at 6:30 p.m. at Heritage House, U. S. 27, Falmouth, KY. The principal speaker at this year's annual meeting will be Dr. Frank Steely, President of Northern Kentucky State College of Highland Heights.

75 Years Ago - January 9, 1948
The weather New Year's Day was pleasant in the Knoxville, Pleasant Ridge, and Portland communities until about 2 o'clock when a short tornado swooped down and caused severe damage to homes, barns, and other buildings in a matter of minutes. Fortunately, no one was hurt. Much of the damage which was done was partially covered by insurance with the Pendleton County Farmers' Fire Insurance Co. here at Falmouth.
The Northern Kentucky Chapter, National Aeronautics Association, will have a dinner meeting at the LLL Restaurant in Falmouth on Friday night, Jan. 23, at 7 o'clock. There are 21 members here in Pendleton County and as soon as 25 are more members are secured, a new chapter will be organized.
Petitions are being circulated among businessmen of Falmouth this week asking Governor Earle Clements to appoint the same council to serve until another city election can be held.
James L. Monroe of this city was in a pretty good mood this week. Reason? A Jersey cow on his farm just east of Falmouth had given birth to twin calves. The cow had been bred by artificial means, and this set of twins is reported as the second in Pendleton County.

100 Years Ago - January 12, 1923
E. M. Montgomery of the Broadford Pike, won fifth place in the egg laying content being conducted by the Experiment Station of Lexington during November. The Experiment Station is conducting this contest during the months of November, December and January, and it is being participated in by poultrymen from all sections of the state. Montgomery is elated over winning this recognition over some of the best flocks in the state.
Miss Frances Cook entertained with lotto and cards Saturday night at the home of her parents is honor of her mother's birthday. The rooms were decorated with holiday colors.
The Falmouth Laundry building was damaged by fire Monday morning about 7 o'clock. Mr. Moore, the manager had built a fire in the stove and had gone to a restaurant for breakfast.
Bus line news: Yes, I make daily trips to Covington. The road is in good shape, except three miles from Piner to Atwood, and that will be repaired soon. The bus leaves Falmouth at 7 a.m. I will make special trips anywhere at night or on Sunday.
Michael William Barry was arrested Saturday at Lexington, charged with making moonshine in an outhouse at his home in that city. He was caught with the still in operation.
A dance will be given at the Duncan Theater Friday night, January 19. Music by the Kentucky Harmony Kings.
