Pendleton County head football coach Jaegger Graham and his players hosted, "Football for Moms 101" on October 1st. There was a very large turnout for this event. Activities for the night included teaching the players’ mothers, sisters, and grandmothers offensive and defensive drills.
The football players used a whiteboard to demonstrate the offensive positions and plays that they use during games. Then the moms took to the field. Each child set their mom up in their position and told them which route to follow. Passes were made and touchdowns were scored.
Nina Barhorst, the quarterback’s mother, said, “Getting the opportunity to connect with the boys while doing what they love was priceless. It was a night full of laughs and love. I’m grateful for Coach Graham and our football family.”
Next up, it was time for defensive drills. The team got out the whiteboard again and set up the defense. The moms got set to block. Usually, the football boys were able to break the defense. “I never knew how skilled you have to be to play my son’s position as a corner,” said Sabrian Laney. “Hanging out with my son in this way was so cool even though I fell. It was fun and filled with lots of laughs.”
Finally, each mother was able to tackle their child. “It was so much fun being on the field learning from my son what he loves to do. He also enjoyed telling his Mom what to do. We had a lot of laughs!” said Angie Snapp. “I have to say the best part was being able to tackle our kids!”
According to senior, Tyler Redden, “I think all the moms enjoyed experiencing football life with their sons. The team was impressed by their moms’ abilities to learn the offense and defense fast. Also, they could all really hit!”
The moms had a few surprises for the boys as well. They decorated the locker room, made treat bags, and created inspirational messages for their child. It was a great, positive mid-season break.
