The message was from Matthew 6:16-18. “Fasting to be seen only by God”. Fasting is God’s doctrine, not man’s. The purpose of fasting is considered a time to be drawn closer to God. When we fast with disfigured faces and sad countenance, it is making sure others know what they are doing is for their own recognition and is not pleasing to God.

V.B.S. will be July 10-14th from 6-8:30 pm.

Please remember the families of Beverly Bishop, Donnie Moore, and Ruby Cooper.

Have a blessed week.

Butler Methodist/

Butler Christ Community

Greetings to all of you. We have changed our name if you are wondering, although it won’t become official until July 1st. We are now and henceforth to be known as the Butler Christ Community Church.

After votes were read at Annual Conference at the beginning of the month, our disaffiliation from the United Methodist Church was approved.

Congratulations to our scholarship recipients, Lily Stephenson and Ross Barlow! We are so very proud of both of you; these two grew up right here in this church.

Please pray for Kenzie Masten, Phil Fookes, DD Tolliver, Carolyn Mullikin, Sandy Smith, Debbie, Cal Adams, Gerald Barlow, Patti Thomas, Steve, Ron, Butch, and Ken and Brenda’s family in loss of Charlotte and this weary world.

May God watch over and protect you this week.

Trinity

The message was brought from Associate Pastor Andrew Baker and pulled from Psalms 23-“The Lord is my Shepherd; he maketh me to lie down in green pastures, he leadeth me beside still waters. He restoreth my soul. He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff comfort me.” This message reminds us that God will abandon the 99 sheep for the one lost soul, for all of heaven will rejoice for the one sinner who is saved. God meets us right where we are, in our mess, and he supplies our every need. A special song was performed by Pat Allen and a lyric from this song was seared on our hearts. “When he was on the cross, I was on his mind.”

The lesson in Sunday school was mentor and disciple those who come after you. God used Moses to mentor Joshua, who became a strong leader under God’s direction, and was a product of Moses’ mentorship. What are some ways one generation typically passes along wisdom to the next? Are you doing your part to mentor someone?  How can we instill in them a passion for living for Jesus Christ?

During the morning worship we celebrated the baptism of Heather Melville; keep Heather, as well as all new Christians, in your prayers. The children’s message was about Joseph and His Brothers from Genesis 37:1-4. Blake Smith-Beighle read Genesis 37:26-28, and the Praise Team sang Just As I Am.

Bro. Dale’s message The Gift of Administration, continued with the story of Joseph, his father Jacob, and how Joseph telling on his brothers was a big mistake. The message went through the steps of how God walks with us through the mistakes and softens our hearts for forgiveness.
