The Pendleton County High School Ladycats volleyball team went into district play on a four-game winning streak last week and used that momentum to capture the 38th District title for the first time since 2012.
“The one thing I have to say is wow,” coach Marian Rice said.
“We had a game plan to go out there and have fun, leave it all on the court, and put our hearts into it for ourselves and the team, and we ended the night with a huge victory.
“Holding each other up during each point, regardless of if it was a gain or a loss, was a huge key in the win.”
Postseason play continues today for the Ladycats as they compete in the 10th Region tournament at Bracken County High School. The Ladycats take on the Augusta Lady Panthers in the first round at 6 p.m. today (Tuesday).
If they win, they will return to Brooksville at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday in the regional semifinals to face the winner of Scott High School vs. Bourbon County.
The regional championship is set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
Last week, the Ladycats began the district tournament with a first-round win over the Nicholas County Lady Jackets 3-2 (25-18, 25-16, 22-25, 22-25, 15-4).
Kearstin Mayer finished the game with a team-high 14 kills, as well as 21 digs.
Pypr McCloud achieved 12 kills 6 blocks, and 9 digs for the team. Gracie Cotterman racked up 11 kills and a personal-high 15 blocks for the Ladycats.
