Ladycats basketball team battling through injuries

Seasons have valleys and peaks and teams that find success in the post season are the ones that grow stronger in the valleys that allows the peaks to be sustained longer.

The Ladycats are mostly definitely in one of their season’s valleys and have been hit hard by injuries.

Senior Bradi Boden has been hampered by an injured ankle over the past two weeks that has limited her playing time and effectiveness.

In the 85-46 loss to Mercer County on Friday night, Ashten Wolfe sprained her ankle.  Her 75 game streak of starting games was snapped in the Cats 55-44 loss to West Jessamine the next day.

The Sharp CheerCats Competitive Squad picked up first place in the Pendleton County Cheer Cup on Saturday, January 5 with a routine that energized and impressed the crowd and judges.

The Pendleton County Recreational Cheerleaders just finished hosting the Cheer Cats Cup at PCHS, January 5, 2013.

Last year the funds generated by this competition were used to purchase a set of mats for practicing. This year, however, the funds will be used towards their trip to compete at the AmeriCheer Winter Open National Championship in Columbus, Ohio.

PCHS Alumni Band performs during Wildcats game Print E-mail

The Alumni Band, under the direction of David Bay, performed at the Wildcats basketball game on Friday, January 4. There was also a tribute to Michelle Caldwell before the National Anthem was played. She was instrumental in putting the PCHS Alumni Band together and some of the other alumni festivities. Michelle lost her bout with cancer in October. Photo and information by Bruce Reller Jr.

 
P.C. Ladycats basketball team hits three game slide

Post Christmas, the Ladycats defeated Rowan County 37-32 in the first game of the Bourbon County Christmas Tournament. In the first game of the second game vs Lexington Catholic, a team that has won the state title twice, they held a 21-11 lead.  Everything looked good for the Cats as they wanted to make a statement that they were one of the best teams in the 10th Region.

Since that point, what has been reality is that the PC’s defense has fallen apart being outscored 191-131 in three straight losses. The three losses were Lexington Catholic game 67-51, Pendleton versus Bourbon Co 62-44 and Pendleton-Beechwood 62-57.

Cats beat Bracken; lose to Montgomery on Alumni Night

The Pendleton County Wildcats played two games last week and it resulted in a 1-1 split. They defeated Bracken County on the road 77-72 and lost a home game to Montgomery County 92-77.

The Wildcats first took on Bracken County last Wednesday, January 2. The Polar Bears kept it close throughout the game, but Pendleton County was able to pull it out by five points.

"We struggled with playing defense, especially in the half court," Wildcats head coach Ed Cravens said. "We scored in the mid 70's but gave up way too many easy baskets, often uncontested jumpers."

Nation's best cheerleaders perform at PC Cheer Cup

The NCAA I-A National Champions University of Kentucky Cheerleading amazed the crowd at the Cheer Cup at Pendleton County High School with stunts and throws flirting with the ceiling girders.  The gym was overflowing with 18 squads performing their routines including exhibitions from collegiate squads UK, Morehead State and NKU and the PCHS CheerCats.

While the excitement and spirit was high for the 18 teams performing and competing at the 2nd PC Cheer Cup, the excitement about blew the roof off the PCHS gym when perennial national champions Morehead State and University of Kentucky squads as well as new NCAA DI squad, NKU, took to the mat at the Cheer Cup at PCHS on Saturday.

"To think of all the time, work and dedication these athletes put in to become National Champions in 2 1/2 minutes is mind boggling. Actually seeing them in our home gymnasium was inspiring to our girls and something our community will never forget."  Cheer Cup coordinators Cheri Griffin and Darlene Wright pointed out about the level of performance that was on display.
