Practice run for school buses Print E-mail

The Pendleton County Schools Transportation Department is ready to roll into a new school year. As part of the preparation for the first day of school, drivers will participate in a practice run on the afternoon of Wednesday August 6, 2014.

This run is a practice day for the bus drivers and school personnel in Pendleton County.

Executive Director of Student Services Joe Buerkley says there are several benefits involved with this process.

The practice run gives drivers an opportunity to review their routes, school administrators an opportunity to review their dismissal procedures, and allows parents and students to confirm their assigned bus.

Families are encouraged to watch their bus stops to note the assigned bus for that route. Buses will depart from schools at the normal dismissal time.

Mechanics have been working throughout the summer to ensure that all buses are inspected, tuned up and in excellent working order. Drivers and monitors have participated in training classes to review safety policies to provide safe and efficient transportation of students.

The first day of school for Pendleton County students will be Monday, August 11. Everyone should be on the lookout for children during their morning and afternoon commute.

Republican Party to meet, Aug.19 Print E-mail

The Pendleton County Republican Party had a very busy month of July. Events such as three parades, two fairs, door-to-door knocking, a visit by the senate minority leader and a big Republican “Party” were all accomplished in a quick 31 days.

August is shaping up to be an important month also. At the next Republican meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 19 at Howard’s Place, the party will be hosting Miss Allison Ball of Prestonsburg, Ky. Ball is the candidate for the office of Kentucky state treasurer. Please plan on attending and let’s show her some Pendleton County hospitality.

“Community Action” for the summer will be a “Back-to-School” Drive. If you plan on attending this meeting, please bring new school supplies to be donated to local classrooms in the Pendleton County School District.
