Wildcats win two, knock off Calvery Christian and Ryle Print E-mail

The Pendleton County Wildcats won two out of three games last week, including victories over Calvary Christian and Ryle High School.

The Wildcats started off the week with a home game against Calvary Christian last Tuesday, January 8. Pendleton jumped out to a 34-13 halftime lead and never looked back in a 75-43 win.

“We were able to play all our kids that were able to play in this game and get them valuable minutes of experience,” Wildcats head coach Ed Cravens said. “We try to use each game to get better.”

Cats beat Bracken; lose to Montgomery on Alumni Night Print E-mail

The Pendleton County Wildcats played two games last week and it resulted in a 1-1 split. They defeated Bracken County on the road 77-72 and lost a home game to Montgomery County 92-77.

The Wildcats first took on Bracken County last Wednesday, January 2. The Polar Bears kept it close throughout the game, but Pendleton County was able to pull it out by five points.

"We struggled with playing defense, especially in the half court," Wildcats head coach Ed Cravens said. "We scored in the mid 70's but gave up way too many easy baskets, often uncontested jumpers."

Wildcats beat Huntsville in Classic; Monroe moving up Print E-mail

The Pendleton County High School Wildcats finished with one victory and two losses in the Smokey Mountain Classic in Gatlinburg, Tennessee on December 20-22.

The Wildcats lost to Miami Senior, Florida 61-41 on Thursday, December 20 and then, they lost to Elizabethtown, Tennessee 88-80 in a close game on Friday, December 21.

Wildcats basketball team defeats Dayton 63-19 Print E-mail

The Pendleton County Wildcats won their third consecutive game, all on the road, last Tuesday, December 18. The Wildcats defeated Dayton High School 63-19.

“Dayton had two to three kids that were academically ineligible tonight and that hurt the team,” Pendleton County head coach Ed Cravens said.

The Wildcats led 49-10 at halftime and went on to post their fifth victory of the season. Senior Mason Monroe scored 10 points, including two 3-pointers for PC.

Wildcats basketball team wins two on the road, 4-3 record overall Print E-mail

The Pendleton County Wildcats began the season 0-3 on the road. That record changed when they racked up two victories against Beechwood and Nicholas County last week.

The Wildcats first took on Beechwood last Tuesday, December 11. In a close, defensive battle, Pendleton County recorded their first road win 45-42.

“This was a rough game. Beechwood was big and physical,” Wildcats head coach Ed Cravens said. “They are always tough and extremely physical so it was a nice win for us.”

Wildcats rack up 102 points against Augusta Print E-mail

The Pendleton County Wildcats love putting on a good show for their home fans. They didn’t disappoint last Thursday, December 6.

The Wildcats scored 102 points in a 102-89 victory over Augusta.

“We played very well. We rebounded well,” Wildcats head coach Ed Cravens said. “Mason put up the ball very well for us.”

It was only a one-point game after the first quarter, 23-22, but Pendleton County scored 32 points in the second quarter and led 55-42 at halftime.

Wildcats defeat GRC with last second shot by Appleman Print E-mail

George Rogers Clark has won the 10th Region the last two years. The Wildcats have a new system with a new head coach. GRC appeared to have the edge in last Saturday’s match-up.

However, Garrett Appleman helped Pendleton County pull off the upset as he hit the last second, game winning three-pointer in the Wildcats home opener 59-56.

“We wanted to throw the ball in and see what we can get,” PC head coach Ed Cravens said. “We wanted to get a quick shot, hoping for a foul. It was a great shot; the only shot he hit all day. He saved the best for last.”

Wildcats ready for upcoming basketball season Print E-mail

The Pendleton County High School Wildcats are ready for the upcoming basketball season. Under first year head coach Ed Cravens, the Wildcats hope to have another exciting season.

“We want to continue the district tournament run. We expect to continue that trend,” coach Cravens said. “We’ve won the district three years in a row.”

The Wildcats will be relying on their seniors heavily this season. Guards Mason Monroe and Garrett Appleman and center Ethan Moore will be key players this year.
