Kentucky high school juniors and seniors may qualify for a scholarship to help pay for dual credit classes taken at a Kentucky college or university.

The Mary Jo Young Scholarship, named for a former member of the Board of Directors of the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA), provides up to $420 per class toward tuition for up to two classes each semester and up to $125 per class for textbooks. Scholarships can only be used in the fall and spring semesters.

Adult Kentuckians who are interested in taking college classes may be eligible for a Go Higher Grant administered by the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA).

Go Higher Grants are available to adults age 24 or older who are enrolled less than half-time at a participating Kentucky college or university. Applicants must show financial need and must be U.S. citizens, nationals or permanent residents. They must also be seeking their first undergraduate degree.

Attention 2013 PCHS seniors!

Orion Lodge 222 F. & A.M. Falmouth will be awarding a $1,000 scholarship to a Pendleton County High School senior graduating in 2013. The scholarship is designed to assist a graduating senior in pursuing a post secondary education at an accredited institution which provides a two or four year program.

Pendleton High School PTSO will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 to elect two (2) parent representatives for the 2013-2014 Site-Based Council.  The deadline for returning nominations is the close of the school day Monday, April 8, 2013.

Voting will take place from 3 – 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9 in the high school auditorium lobby.  If subsequent rounds of voting are necessary, voters must be present to vote in these subsequent rounds.

Information packets, including the nomination form, may be picked up in the office of Pendleton High School or accessed on the high school web page www.pendleton.kyschools.us.

Pendleton County High School students, under the direction of John DeAtley and Michelle Lustenberg, participated in the YMCA Kentucky United Nations Assembly in Louisville from March 14-16.

The students chose to represent the country of Brazil early on this year but as the delegation grew decided to add a second country, Bolivia.

The following Pendleton County FFA members competed in the Northern Kentucky Regional FFA Day. Jacob Feltner, Caleb Browning and Ian Tackett placed second in the talent contest. Pendleton County placed second in the senior parliamentary procedure contest.

The Pendleton County School District will host its annual “Evening of the Arts” on Thursday April 11 at Phillip A. Sharp Middle School. The event will take place from 5:30 until 8 p.m. and will showcase an exceptional display of artistic abilities from students representing all four schools in the district.

There will be visual art displays and workstations in the cafeteria, content area arts displays in the library including Kentucky United Nations Assembly global village displays, and musical and theatrical performances in the gymnasium and band room.

Concessions will be served throughout the event and children will be treated to free face painting.

Visitors will also be invited to participate through the many interactive student run workstations.

This year’s event will also showcase sculptural works of art created out of duct tape and allow the community to select the winner of the Duct Tape Sculpture Competition.

Visual Art workstations will be located in the cafeteria and will include collograph printing, zentangle, face painting and scratch art.

Scheduled performances in the gymnasium include the Southern Elementary Chorus at 5:55, Northern Elementary Choir and Mallet Madness at 6:20, and the PCHS Dance Team at 7:10.

Performances in the band room include the PCHS Drama Club performing student written plays beginning at 6:30 and the Sharp Middle School Choir singing solo and group numbers at 7:30.

If you have never attended “Evening of the Arts,” you are missing out on a celebration of the music, dance, drama and visual art talents of our Pendleton County students.  The event features something for everyone and the students and arts teachers are looking forward to entertaining all who attend.

Northern Elementary’s Academic Team placed second at the regional competition held at St. Catherine’s in Ft. Thomas on Saturday, March 23. The competition included 20 different schools.

The Pendleton County 109 Solid Waste Management Board is pleased to announce their fifth year in offering $500 scholarships that will be awarded to a non-traditional adult student in May of 2013. A non-traditional student is an adult that is currently attending college or plans to attend college during the fall 2013 semester.

Although the 109 Board continues to support high school scholarships, they also want to support adults returning to college.

GED graduates are encouraged to apply. Previous recipients are not eligible to reapply. The criteria and applications are available through the local Adult Education Office at 654-3325 Ext. 2601.

The deadline for submitting for this scholarship is April 26, 2013.
