PCHS Class of 1968 reunion Print E-mail

Earth Day at library Print E-mail

The Pendleton County Public Library will be hosting an Earth Day celebration for students in kindergarten through twelfth grade.

Kids in kindergarten through fourth grade are invited to attend from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17. There will be stories to listen to and an environmentally-friendly craft to make.

Students in grades ninth though twelfth are invited to attend from 6 - 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23. They will be learning ways to preserve the Earth and making an environmentally-friendly craft. Snacks will be provided.

Fifth through eighth grade will be celebrating Earth Day from 6 - 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24. They will also be learning ways to preserve the Earth and making an environmentally-friendly craft. Snacks will be provided.

P.C. Historical Society to meet April 20 Print E-mail

The April meeting of the Pendleton County Historical and Genealogical Society will meet at 11 a.m. on April 20 at the Fryer House. This is a regular membership meeting with no scheduled program.

There will be open forum discussions after the business meeting on subjects that members are willing to talk about. The public is encouraged to attend and welcome to discuss or tell stories.

Fryer House will be open to the public between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on April 22 for research. The next regular meeting is 11 a.m. on May 18 at the Fryer House.

Join the P.C. Historical Society and help us grow the knowledge of Pendleton County history and genealogy. Everyone is welcome.

Fryer House is located on the NE corner at the intersection of KY 177 and US 27 in Butler, Ky. Plenty of free parking is available.

Free trees at library Print E-mail

The Pendleton County Public Library will celebrate Earth Day and Arbor Day by distributing free silky dogwood, Chinese chestnut, red bud and white pine seedlings.  These seedlings will be given out starting Monday, April 15 and will be available as long as supplies last. There is a limit of one bundle of two seedlings per person. Bundles include one white pine and one silky dogwood or one white pine and one Chinese chestnut or one white pine and one red bud.

The library would like to thank the Pendleton County Conservation District and the Kentucky Division of Forestry for donating these seedlings.

Pendleton County Republican meeting Print E-mail

The Pendleton County Republican Party will host its monthly meeting at 7 p.m., April 16 at Howard's Place in Falmouth. John Kemper will be the special guest.

The previous meetings have been very productive as committees have been established and plans made to bring positive change in the county and country.

The meetings are open to any conservative who wants to stand up for constitutional principles in the government. Please join them as they discuss important issues on the county, state and federal levels.

The Aviation Museum has new hours Print E-mail

The Aviation Museum of Kentucky has new hours of operation for the summer tourism season.

The museum will be open for guests Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.; 1 until 5 p.m. on Sundays and will be closed on Mondays. Guests can contact the museum for current admission rates at 859-231-1219 or visit the website at www.avaitionky.org. These times will be in effect until further notice.

"We want the museum to be a destination for family enjoyment, for guests from the Commonwealth or from anywhere!" Said museum president Gerry van der Meer. "There is something here for guests of any age."

The Aviation Museum of Kentucky has a replica of the first airplane built and flown in Kentucky in 1908. There are exhibits on women in aviation and the Kentucky Air National Guard. Aircraft on display include an A-4 Skyhawk, the same type flown by Senator John McCain during his military service, an F-4 Phantom, the same type flown by "ace" pilots with five victories in the Vietnam War; and an F-14 Tomcat, the same type of US Navy plane made famous in the feature film "Top Gun."

The Aviation Museum of Kentucky is also home to the Kentucky Aviation Hall of Fame, which has honored citizens of the Commonwealth for their aeronautical achievements since 1996.  The museum is located at 4029 Airport Road at Blue Grass Airport in Lexington.

Croswell VIP Tours to visit the "Quilt Gardens of Amish Country" Print E-mail

Croswell VIP Tours will be traveling to the "Quilt Gardens of Amish Country" on June 17 - 18 in northern Indiana. This will be a two day, one night trip.

There will be a Heritage Trail Backroads Tour that will explore the country communities. Guests will have the opportunity to experience local flavor and culture.

The tour includes roundtrip transportation, one night hotel accommodations, one breakfast, one dinner, admission costs, all taxes and gratuities on meals and lodging, and all luggage handling.

Tour cost per person is $199 double occupancy, $189 triple occupancy and $299 single occupancy.

Aspire for a brighter future through education Print E-mail

The public is invited to attend a critical meeting on education in Pendleton County to be presented at 6:30 p.m. on April 29 in the auditorium of Pendleton County High School. This meeting is being hosted by the Pendleton County Gateway Community and Technical College Focus Group in conjunction with the cities of Falmouth and Butler and the Pendleton County Fiscal Court. The purpose of the meeting is to hear a presentation by Mr. Ron Crouch, Research Director with the Education and Workforce Development Cabinet in Frankfort, regarding how education and workforce training can grow the economy and help create jobs in Pendleton County.

This presentation is part of the Gateway Focus Group’s ongoing efforts to expand the economy of Pendleton County by working to bring a campus of Gateway Community and Technical College to the community to serve the education and training needs of both business and industry and community residents. The focus of the evening’s presentation is to bring business, industry and community leaders together to gain insight into how education, especially technical education, and specialized workforce training can benefit them directly in the short term and make them more competitive in our changing regional, national and global economy over the long term.

A meet and greet will begin at 6:30 p.m. followed at 7 p.m. by Mr. Crouch’s presentation. Dr. Angie Taylor, vice president for Workforce Solutions with Gateway Community and Technical College, will then follow with a discussion of specialized training opportunities which Gateway makes available to the area’s business and industry leaders.

The evening will conclude with a report from staff and leadership regarding classes already set to be offered this coming fall in Pendleton County. This report will discuss the class schedule as well as scholarships and financial aid opportunities for which students may apply.

Please come and join this very important presentation to hear from the speakers regarding how the availability of technical education and workforce development through Gateway community and Technical College in Pendleton County can improve our economy, support existing businesses and industries and help us to attract new employers to the community. UK Markey Cancer Center offers free screening service for women Print E-mail

The free ovarian cancer screening program, offered year-round through Markey, is open to women ages 50 and older, and to those older than 25 who have a family history of ovarian cancer.  The program was started in 1987 with a goal of studying whether transvaginal sonography could be an effective tool for early detection of ovarian cancer.

This year, the Pendleton County Extension Service will be providing transportation for nine women to take advantage of this free screening service on April 29. Those wishing to take advantage of this screening will need to call the P.C. Extension Office at 859-654-3395. They will take the first nine individuals that call to fill these slots.

Blue Licks Jam Session changes days Print E-mail

The Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort Park monthly jam session is moving to a new night starting April 16.

The park event will be moving to every third Tuesday of the month. During the jam session, a regular monthly event for more than three years, local musicians are invited to share in an informal evening round-robin of music.

The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. and usually wraps up at 8 p.m., depending on how many musicians attend. The jam session is open to the public, and visitors are welcome to bring an instrument, join in the singing or sit back and listen.

Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort Park has a lodge, cottages, campground, Hidden Waters Restaurant, gift shop, miniature golf, picnic areas and hiking trails. The resort is located 45 miles northeast of Lexington off historic Highway 68.
