Phyllis Wolfe, 62 Print E-mail

Phyllis Wolfe, 62, of Lenoxburg, passed away at home on April 18, 2013, surrounded by her loving family after a long battle with cancer.

Phyllis was born on April 23, 1950 in Lenoxburg, a daughter of the late Herbert and Evelyn Lucille Cummins Hamilton and she graduated from Pendleton County High School in 1968.

She married David Wolfe on July 31, 1970. Mrs. Wolfe was a member of Cemetery Chapel Christian Church and a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Surviving, in addition to her husband of 42 years, are son, Kevin (Sarah) Wolfe, Falmouth;  daughter, Teresa (Kevin) Barnard,  Falmouth; sister, Alta Reed;  brother, Roy Hamilton, both of Foster; grandchildren, Nathan, Kayla, Jared, Noah and Ellison; and many niece and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 20, 2013, at the Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth, with Bro. Kevin Barnard officiating. Serving as flower girls were Kayla Wolfe and Ellison Barnard. Serving as pallbearers were David Lovelace, Rick Taylor, Allen Reed, Jimmy Hamilton, Jared Wolfe, Nathan Norton, Noah Barnard and Ryne Clos.

Interment took place in the Lenoxburg Cemetery, officiated by Bro. Troy Staggs.

Memorials are suggested to the Lenoxburg Cemetery, 992 Lenoxburg Foster Road, Foster, KY 41043.

Kenneth L. Hitch, 82 Print E-mail

Kenneth L. Hitch, 82, of Alexandria, passed away Friday April 19, 2013 at the St. Elizabeth Hospital in Ft. Thomas.

He was born in Visalia, Ky. on March 13, 1931, to the late Gerald C. and Evelyn Trapp Hitch. Mr. Hitch was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school and retired serving as a deacon.  He worked 38 years for Newport Steel and coached knothole baseball for 12 years.

Preceding him, in addition to parents, was brother, Donald R. Hitch.

Surviving are wife of 57 years, Ethel Gilb Hitch, Alexandria; son, Gerald Lee (Carol) Hitch- Alexandria; daughters, Karin (Charles) Edgington, Alexandria, Paula Sinclair, Cold Spring; sister, Geraldine Gray, Alexandria; and grandchildren, Josh, Andrew, Deron (Cassie), Andrea (Adam), Bradley, Erich, Kenny and Nicholas.

Funeral services were April 22, 2013 at the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. Peoples Funeral Home is serving the family.

Interment will take place at 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church then departing to the Alexandria Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, 11212 Lees Road, Alexandria, KY 41001.

Mary Imogene Martin, 86 Print E-mail

Mary Imogene Martin, 86, of Melbourne, formerly of Pendleton County, passed away on Wednesday April 17, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Ft. Thomas.

Surviving are sons, Tom Robinson Jr., Butler, John Jones Jr., Melbourne; and daughters, Connie Bressler, Falmouth, Cathy Beyersdoerfer, Butler.

Funeral services were Saturday, April 20, 2013 the Peoples Funeral Home, Butler.

Interment took place at the  Gardnersville Cemetery, Pendleton Co.

William "Bill" Nelson Clemons, 77 Print E-mail

William "Bill" Nelson Clemons, 77, of Portland, Ind., formerly of Northern Kentucky, passed away April 15, 2013.

Bill was born April 29, 1935 in Falmouth to the late Neal and Anna  Marie Hutchison Jacobs.  He enlisted in the Army when he was 17 years old and was sent to Korea as a paratrooper in the 82nd airborne division. After the war, Bill became a fireman for the Pennsylvania railroad and retried as passenger engineer in 1969 after 15 years of service. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, collecting coins, restoring old cars and trucks and was former owner/operator from 1995 to 2009 of three Tires  Inc. stores located throughout Ohio and Indiana.

Surviving are wife, Linda Rismiller Clemons, Portland, Ind.;  children (from his marriage to Ila "Sam" Jones, Erlanger), Deborah Clemons, Greensfork, Ind.; Sheila Kurtnick, Eaton, Ohio; Valerie Clemons, Westerville, Ohio,  Bill Clemons, Erlanger; stepchildren, Carla Weiser and Adam Follrod; grandchildren, Jacob "Jake" Powers, Anna Caroline Wright and Tristian Clemons; and great-grandchildren, Sierra Payne and Chloe James.

Funeral services were Friday, April 19 at the Allison & Rose Funeral Home.

Military honors and internment took place at the Hillcrest Cemetery, Dry Ridge.

Margaret Worth Brewer, 93 Print E-mail

Margaret Worth Brewer, nee Holmes, 93, passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2013 in Fort Thomas, Kentucky.

She was born in Butler to the late William Wandelohr Holmes and Ava Blanche Pelley Holmes on February 10, 1920 and lived her young life in Bellevue and graduated from Bellevue High School in 1938. After marrying in 1972, she was a resident of Wilder for over 50 years. Margaret graduated from Spears Memorial Hospital School of nursing, Dayton as a registered nurse in May 1941 and completed her postgraduate study of obstetric Nursing at Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital of Hudson County, Jersey City, New Jersey in 1944. She often mentioned that Frank Sinatra, Jr. was born at Margaret Hague while she was studying there. For a few years, she worked as head nurse in maternity at Spears Memorial Hospital and then began working with Dr. A. E. Howe of Alexandria in May 1950. She worked with Dr. Howe until her retirement in June of 1970. As a registered nurse, many northern Kentucky residents knew Margaret as “Miss Holmes.” Margaret delivered, as well as assisted with delivering, many babies of the “Baby Boomer” generation. She once said, “I found out that the work I was doing was the work of a nurse practitioner, before we even had nurse practitioners.” When her mother was a resident at the Butler Rest Home, Margaret was the registered nurse on duty. Margaret was the first police matron for the city of Wilder and served from approximately 1978 to 2000. Utilizing her nursing diploma, she assisted with female prisoners after their arrest. At the age of 52, Margaret married the love of her life, WWII Veteran and 32nd Degree Mason, Basil Roy Brewer on August 6, 1972. They were happily married and inseparable until his passing on September 21, 1976. At the time of their marriage, Basil had three adult children. Margaret spoke and thought very highly of them. Their current names are Carol Schweitzer, Dan Brewer and Donna DeMarino.

Margaret was a member of Bellevue Christian Church throughout her youth and adulthood until it merged with another Disciples of Christ Church in Dayton. She transferred her membership to the former Rolling Hills Christian Church, Cold Spring and attended there until her health declined. Her memberships included, National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, Rebecca Bryan Boone Chapter; Daughters of America, Grants Lick, Council 69; VFW Post 3205, Alexandria; Spears Nurses’ Association, president for 30 years; and participated in many Bible study groups throughout the years. Margaret also did volunteer work at the Burn Center of Northern Kentucky, the Veterans Hospital of Cincinnati; and The Veterans Hospital in Fort Thomas. Margaret drove friends around town on day trips for many years. She enjoyed life and living. Margaret was a wonderful lady and helped anyone and everyone she could who needed it.

Preceding her in death, in addition to parents and  husband,  were siblings, Ava Wandelohr Horne, Col. William Webster Holmes, John Coleman Holmes, Mary Lee Roberts, James Wandelohr Holmes, Charles Gosney Holmes Sr.; and nephew, Peter Anderson Holmes.

Surviving are sister, Miss Anna Bryan Holmes, Fort Thomas; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Julia Anderson Holmes, Pontotoc, Miss., Mrs. Claire Amend Holmes, Grants Lick; nieces, Mary E. Horne Layne (Ken), Franklin, N.C., Dr. Cora Lee Holmes Waltress (Jim), Pontotoc, Miss., Dr. Anne A. Roberts Herrington (Dr. Glenn), Jackson, Miss., Charlene G. Holmes White (Anthony), Alexandria; and Connie G. Holmes Larson (Jan Arthur) of Cedar Park, Texas; nephews, Dr. Robert Holmes Roberts (Victoria Streuli), Germantown, Tenn.; John A. Horne (June Smith), Huntersville, N.C., Charles G. Holmes Jr. (Yvonne Rich),  Covington, Clayton G. Holmes (Nancy Appel), Fort Thomas and Christopher G. Holmes Sr. (Elizabeth Zerhusen), Independence; 15 great-nephews; five great-nieces;  four great-grand-nephews;  and four great-grand-nieces.

Funeral services were Friday, April 19, 2013 at Peoples Funeral Home, Butler.

Interment took place at  Butler Cemetery, Butler with Rev. Richard A. Livengood IV presiding.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to The Salvation Army of Northern Kentucky, 340 West 10th Street, Newport, KY 41071.
