Sally Jewell Eileen Insko Beyersdoerfer, 87 Print E-mail

Sally Jewell Eileen Insko Beyersdoerfer, 87, of Foster passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2014, at her home.

She was born on November 18, 1926, in Foster, to the late Lentel and Alberta Pangburn  Insko and married John Leroy (J. L.) Beyersdoerfer on February 28, 1947.

Her husband of 62 years preceded her in death on June 9, 2009. She was a homemaker, a member of the Pine Grove United Methodist Church, Pendleton County, where she served as the church pianist and participated in United Methodist Women (UMW), a member of the Pendleton County Homemakers, a member of Order of the Eastern Star, and a Kentucky Colonel. As a self-taught pianist, Sally’s love for music spanned her entire life, from playing the piano for dances in school, to singing with her sisters and playing in area churches as a young adult, to playing for any event at her church and in the community. Mrs. Beyersdoerfer was always willing to share her talent.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband and parents, were brothers, Lentel “June” Insko and Norman Insko; and sister, Linda Sue “Lynn” Sexton.

Surviving her are daughter, Connie (Steve) McKinney, Lexington; son, Steve (JoAnn) Beyersdoerfer, Foster; siblings,  Annette “Toots” Sturgeon, Cincinnati, Marilyn Galloway, Foster, Joyce Estep, Cincinnati, Melvin “Bucky” Insko, Florence, Ada Ruth “Ruthie” Sanders, Cincinnati, John Insko, Butler, Larry “Butch” Insko, Walton; grandchildren, Kerry (Timothy) Graul, Stephanie McKinney,  Kate (Josh) Bieker, Betsy (Robby) Powell; great-grandson, Benjamin; and a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 4, 2014, at the Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth, with Rev. Carol Mains officiating. Prior to the service, the August Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star conducted a memorial tribute to Sally. Special music was shared by Shirley Cummins and Millie Blades. The pallbearers were Stephanie McKinney, Timothy Graul, Robert Powell, Josh Bieker, Regin Galloway, Danny Insko, Ian Insko, Brad Insko and Troy Insko.

Interment took place at the Lenoxburg Cemetery, Bracken County.

Memorials are suggested to the Pine Grove United Methodist Church.

Amber Renee Horn, 27 Print E-mail

Amber Renee Horn, 27, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., formerly of Grant County passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2013.

She was born in Covington on April 11, 1985, to Tonya Horn and the late Donald Horn.

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are husband, Merrell Jennings, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; son, Tyrell Ray Horn; and daughters, Rhianna, Tiana and Brianna Jennings.

Visitation will be held from 11  a.m. to 1 p.m., with funeral services to immediately follow, January 8, 2014 at Peoples Funeral Home in Butler.

Interment will take place at the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery, Williamstown.

Betty Chapman, 88, of Falmouth passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2014 at the St. Elizabeth Hospital in Ft. Thomas.

Verla Mae Mullins Whitaker, 66 Print E-mail

Verla Mae Mullins Whitaker, 66, of Berry passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at her home.

Surviving are husband, Layne Whitaker; and daughter, Debbie "Sissie" (David) Hadden, Berry.

Funeral services were held Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Woodhead Funeral Home, Berry with Pastor Mike Barres and Bro. Don Fryman officiating.

Interment took place at the Pythian Grove Cemetery, Berry.

Lucille Wolfe, 91 Print E-mail

Lucille Wolfe, 91, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2013, at the home of her daughter, Peri Fischer.

Lucille had retired from Gold Star Chili and was a member of Latonia Christian Church for 55 years. She loved playing the piano and played for The Colony, a Sing-A-Long for 11 years.

Preceding her in death was husband, Lester, in 1969.

Surviving are son, Michael Wolfe; daughters, Donna Wolfe, Sherry Soward, Lynette (E.J.) Minnich, Peri-Anne Fischer, and Melody (Matt) Linneman; grandchildren, Tim Albin, Toby Soward, Tara Soward, Miranda Tackett, Lester Colley, Geoffrey Fischer, McKayla Fischer, Kristen Abdon, Kelsey Abdon and Kaitlyn Abdon; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, December 30, 2013 at Latonia Christian Church.

Interment took place Tuesday, December 31 at the Pythian Grove Cemetery, Berry. Woodhead Funeral Home, Berry, is serving the family.

Memorials are suggested to the Latonia Christian Church.

David Napier, 50 Print E-mail

David Napier, 50, of Butler passed away on Monday, December 16, 2013, at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

He was born in Covington on April 13, 1963, to Nancy Johnson Napier and the late Robert Lee Napier. A 1984 graduate of Pendleton High School, he built skids for Napier Pallet in Pendleton County, and attended Butler Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death, in addition to his father, was brother, Billy Ray Napier.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are brothers, Robert Napier, Leroy Napier and James Napier, all of Falmouth; sisters, Brenda Wachter, Augusta, and Patricia Courts, Falmouth; several nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday, December 19, 2013, at the Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth.

Interment took place in the Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth.

Karen Sue Dirkes White, 58 Print E-mail

Karen Sue Dirkes White, 58, of Foster passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2013.

She was born in Covington on June 8, 1955, to the late Earl and Edna Houben Dirkes. Karen was a member of the Flour Creek Christian Church and a sales associate at Walmart.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, was nephew, Chris Dirkes.

Surviving are sons, Daniel (Tisha) White, Falmouth, Robert (Amanda) White, Foster; sister, Pamela Faulkner, Southgate, Ky.; brother, Bill Dirkes, Bellevue; grandchildren, Blake, Parker and Ricky White; and niece, Allison Faulkner, Lexington.

Funeral services were held Monday, December 30, 2013 at the Peoples Funeral Home, Butler.

Interment took place at the Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Butler.

Elsie Townsend Hart, 81 Print E-mail

Elsie Townsend Hart, 81, of Falmouth, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 22, 2013, at the Robertson County Health Care Facility in Mt. Olivet.

She was born on July 20, 1932, in Berry, to the late Dalbert and Ruby Bush Townsend. She married Earl Vaughn Hart on November 26, 1953, and after 51 years of marriage, her dear husband preceded her in death on February 8, 2005. Throughout her life, Elsie bloomed wherever she was planted. A Harrison County native, she was a 1950  graduate of Berry High School and was raised in the Berry Christian Church. Early in their marriage, Earl and Elsie lived in Latonia, where she was a bank teller for Central Trust Banking Company in Cincinnati and a member of the Latonia Christian Church. Upon returning to Pendleton County, Elsie worked as a clerk for the former Sears and Roebuck Catalog Store, a teller with the former Pendleton Federal Savings & Loan, and most recently, as a clerk with Houchen’s Clothing Store all in Falmouth. She was a member of the Falmouth Christian Church, where she served as deaconness, treasurer, and a  Sunday school teacher. Before her illness, Elsie also participated in Vacation Bible School, helped with bereavement dinners at her church, and volunteered with Kincaid Regional Theatre.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband and parents, were brothers, Arlyn and Harold Townsend and twin brothers in infancy.

Surviving are daughter, Karen Hart Delaney; son-in-law, John Delaney; brother, Donald (Marie) Townsend, Winchester; sisters-in-law, Wanda Townsend and Wilma Hart, both of Covington and Wilma Faye (Jim) Hoffman, Jonesville; granddaughters, Elizabeth Delaney and Jennifer Delaney Hartzel; grandson-in-law, Steven Tyler Hartzel; great-grandson, Steven Lane Hartzel; and a host of extended family and friends.

The funeral services were held Thursday, December 26, 2013, at the Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth, with Bro. Rick Halcomb and Bro. Clay Sullivan officiating.

Serving as pallbearers were Bill Hart, Kevin Higgins, Richard Broaddus, Daryl Black, Buddy Roe, Dave Fancher, Larry Winkle, and Ed Delaney and honorary pallbearers were J.W. McKinney, Donald Townsend, Pete Steele, Ben Browning, Carol Houchen, and Kenneth Butcher. A personal reflection was presented by Elizabeth Delaney. Special music was shared by Tyler and Jennifer Hartzel, Adarin Williams, Martha Lynn and Darryl Ammerman.

Interment took place at the Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Pendleton County.

John Stephen Conrad, 46 Print E-mail

John Stephen Conrad, 46, of Astor, Fla. formerly of Pendleton County, passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2013.

He was born in Owenton on July 24, 1967, son of Rachel Stearman Conrad and the late Rev. James Conrad. John was a member of the Second Twelve Mile Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death, in addition to his father, was his brother, James Ray Conrad.

Surviving are mother, Rachel Stearman Conrad, Foster; brothers, Joe Conrad, Alexandria, Jack (Julie) Conrad, Ft. Mitchell; nieces, Isabella and Elise Conrad, Ft. Mitchell; and his devoted girlfriend, Peggy Knight, Orlando, Fla.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m., Friday, January 3, 2014 at the Second Twelve Mile Baptist Church- Peach Grove and also from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2014 with funeral services immediately following also at the church, under direction of Peoples Funeral Home.

Interment will take place at the Short Creek Cemetery, Pendleton Co.

Mona Crowley, 87 Print E-mail

Mona Crowley, 87, of Alexandria, formerly of Pendleton Co. passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2013 at the Emeritus Senior Living, Edgewood.

She was born in Demossville on September 26, 1926 to the late Benjaman Franklin and Nola Vastine Stahl.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were husband, Bernard Crowley; son, David Crowley; brothers, Sylvester, Herman, Raymond, Donald, Gene and Robert Stahl; and sister, Clarice Fronk.

Surviving are son, Tommy Crowley, Alexandria; brother, Leo Stahl; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held December 30, 2013 at the St. Pius Catholic Church, Edgewood.

Interment took place at the St. Mary's Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell under the direction of Peoples Funeral Home.
