Delbert M. Spaulding, 68 Print E-mail

Delbert M. Spaulding,  68, passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at his residence in Bellevue.

He was born May 31, 1945  in Boston, Ky. to the late Lawrence and Leila Spaulding. Delbert was a retired social worker, and a graduate of Pendleton County High School and  Oswego College, Oswego, N.Y and a US Army veteran.

Preceding him in death were brothers, Lloyd “Bud,” and William Spaulding; and sisters, Pauline Figgins and Neva Reed.

Surviving are sons, Anthony (Janet), David (Andrea) Spaulding; sisters, Alleen (Ken) Mapes, Rome City, Ind., Margaret Di Blasi,  Oswego, N.Y.; brothers, Dwight (Kathy) Spaulding, Fort Wayne, Ind., James (Gloria) Spaulding, Dale, Ind.; and grandchildren, Ainsleigh, Kade, Avery, Olivia, Charlotte and Kara.

Donald Wallin England, 90 Print E-mail

Donald Wallin England, 90, of Falmouth passed away August 23, 2013 at Harrison Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born July 22, 1923 to the late Silas and Viola Teegarden England and had just celebrated his 90th birthday. Donald retired from Wilson Freight after 30 years and then worked in the antique refinishing business with his son. He was an accomplished craftsman and his family is fortunate to possess many of his creations. Mr. England also served as a city councilman for the city of Falmouth for 12 1/2 years and was a member of the Oakland Christian Church, a KY Colonel,  a veteran of the US Navy during WWII, member of Hardin-Browning American Legion Post 109, a member of the DAV and the VFW and a former Union Steward with Teamsters local 100.

Preceding him in death were wife, Joyce Ruth Draper; and sister, Naomi Simpson Turner.

Surviving are sons, Jerry (Cheryl) England, Lexington, Terry England, Falmouth; sister, Carlene Carr; granddaughters, Julie Donn (Chris) Edling, Jill Dionne (Chad) Burton; great- grandchildren, Bennett Gerald Edling, Carson Elizabeth Burton;  nieces, Alma Ruth Moore, Shirley Clark, Johanna Flynn; nephews, Donnie Simpson, Donnie Draper, Carl Draper; several great-nieces and nephews;  a long list of family and friends especially his extended family, Marion and Brenda Bush Brooks, Glen and Sandy Craddock, Ron and Carla Stinson and family; and his special buddy, Murphy, who made his last years so enjoyable.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, August 27 at the Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth with full military honors from the Hardin-Browning Post 109.

Pallbearers were Chris Edling, Chad Burton, Ron Stinson, Donnie Moore, Barry Moore, Carl Draper, Dennis Flynn, Darryl Sargent and Marion Brooks and honorary pallbearers were Mary Ann Shields, Janet Fields, Morag Adlon, Barb Dickison, Ilean Koettel and Ramona Williams.

Memorial services were conducted by Brother Joe Hall.

Interment took place at the Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth.

Memorials were suggested to the Hospice of the Bluegrass, Cynthiana.


Mary K. Reynolds Gronotte, 86 Print E-mail

Mary K. Reynolds Gronotte, 86, of Covington passed away on Friday, August 30, 2013, at the Providence Pavilion in Covington.

She was born in Pendleton County on August 24, 1927, to  the late Edward Earl and Mary Frances Schuetz Reynolds and married Joseph B. Gronotte  on September 24, 1958  who preceded her in death on August 24, 1986. She graduated from La Salette Academy in 1944 and earned her realtor’s license and worked for 30 years, selling for Huff Realty in Ft. Mitchell, and ASK Realty in Edgewood. Formerly, she worked as the secretary to the president of the former Pogue’s Department Store in Cincinnati. Also she was member of Mother of God Church, where she had been a member of the Choral Club, Mary K. leaves a legacy of living her faith and loving her family and friends.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents and husband, were son, Joseph Anthony “Tony” Gronotte; and brother, Edward Joseph Reynolds.

Surviving are sons, J. Timothy  (Mary Anne) Gronotte, Ft. Mitchell, J. Thaddeus Gronotte (Adam Sublett), Covington; daughter-in-law, Terry  (Rick) Granick, Cincinnati, Ohio;  sisters,  Marge (Paul) Klee of Ft. Mitchell, Betty Coleman and Frances Kelly, both of Taylor Mill, Judy (Dan) Woodhead, Falmouth; sister-in-law, Marilyn Reynolds, Elsmere; grandchildren, Joe Gronotte, Holley  (Brian) Hughes, Br. Andrew Gronotte, LC, Br. Christopher Gronotte, LC and Elizabeth Gronotte; great-grandchildren, J.J., Bryce and Anna Grace Hughes;  and a host of extended family and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, September 3, 2013, at Mother of God Church, Covington, with Rev. Raymond Hartman officiating. Serving as pallbearers were her godchildren,  Nancy Wright, Billy Coleman, Gerard Reynolds, John Kelly, Marjorie Maginn, Greg Wehrman and Mary Hillenmeyer.

Entombment took place in the mausoleum at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell.

Hazen Hurst, 88, of Montgomery, Ohio, formerly of Covington, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2013, at the Twin Lakes of Montgomery in Ohio.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are daughter, Karen Hurst (David) Hills, Indian Hill, Ohio.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at the Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth, with Rev. Chinna Simon officiating.

Interment took place at the Morgan Cemetery, Pendleton County, with full military honors conducted by the Hardin- Browning Post #109.

Melvin Galloway, 83, of Lexington, formerly of Pendleton County,  passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at the Kindred Nursing Facility in Harrodsburg.

He was born July 8, 1930, to the late Elijah and Gracie Showalter Galloway. Mr. Galloway was a farmer and a veteran serving in the U.S. Army.

Preceding him in death were sisters, Dora Inez Blackburn and Wanda Lou Whaley.

Surviving locally are nieces, Barbara Sue King and Linda (Bob) Grizzell; and a nephew, Mike (Debbie) Whaley.

Graveside services were held on Saturday, September 7, 2013, at the Riverside Cemetery in Falmouth, conducted by the Hardin-Browning Post #109.

Terry Cookendorfer, 73, of Falmouth passed away on Monday, September 2, 2013 at the St. Elizabeth Hospice Health Care, Ft. Thomas.

Terry was born in Falmouth on August 8, 1940 to the late Earl and Verona Hamilton Cookendorfer.

Preceding him, in addition to parents, were sons, Mike Allender, Robert Hamilton; and daughter, Teresa Bishop.

Surviving are wife, Ruth Allender Cookendorfer, Falmouth; son, Shawn Richie, Falmouth; daughters, Verona Sue Cookendorfer, Ky., Pam Hundley, Falmouth, Lara Denning, Ohio; brothers, Loren Cookendorfer, Lady Luck, Fla., Rodney Cookendorfer, Falmouth; sisters, Paula Cooper, Falmouth, Karla Gerton, Louisville; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on September 5, 2013 at the Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth.

Juanita F. (nee McKinney) Whitley, 84, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 1, 2013.

Surviving are son, Kevin McKinney; and sisters, Ruth Woods and Nancy Kampsen.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, September 1, 2013, at the Mueller Funeral Home in Mason, Ohio.

Interment took place at the Neave Cemetery, Bracken County.

Memorials are suggested to the Hospice of Southwest Ohio.

Local arrangements were handled by Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth.


Robert Lee Morgan, 69 Print E-mail

Robert Lee Morgan, 69, of Loveland, Ohio, formerly of Falmouth passed away on Friday, August 30, 2013 at the Bethesda North Hospital in Cincinnati.

He was born on June 19, 1944, in Corbin to the late Joseph and Edna Alsip Morgan, was a member of the Falmouth Baptist Church and a driver for North Key.

Preceding him in death were brother, Harold Morgan and sister, Pauline Wagner.

Surviving are brother, William Morgan and sister, Viola Russell.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 with funeral services immediately following at the Falmouth Baptist Church with Bro. Cohen Copley officiating.

Pallbearers for the service will be the deacons of Falmouth Baptist Church.

Interment will take place at the Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Pendleton County.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Falmouth Baptist Church: 403 Maple Ave, Falmouth, KY 41040.

American Legion Post 109 and V.F.W. Post 1978 and D.A.V. Post members held full military services for Mr. Donald Wallin England at the Riverside Cemetery on August 27, 2013.

Mr. England served in the United States Navy in WWII.
