Should the U.S. become involved in Crimea against the Russians?

First a few rudimentary facts about Crimea: Crimea is a peninsula jutting into the huge Black Sea. Crimea is about the size of Maryland. It is part of the Ukraine nation which has a land mass about the size of Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, and Tennessee combined. Ukraine is a divided nation in that its citizens in the eastern half lean toward aligning with Russia while its citizens in the western half lean toward aligning with the European Union (EU). Ukraine is thus squeezed by the authoritarian state of Russia on one side and the more democratic nations of the EU on the other.
