William L. Simon, 88 Print E-mail

William Lincoln Simon, 88, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2013, at his home in Butler.

Bill had been ill for some time and died peacefully with his wife Dorothy, four children, Vicki, Jim, Becky and Lisa, granddaughter Hannah, grandson Simon and great-grandson Aiden by his side.

Bill was a Veteran of the United States Navy serving during WWII and the Korean War. Bill joined the Navy in 1942 and participated in some of the most crucial campaigns of World War II, including the Murmansk Run, the Normandy Invasion and the Battle of Peleliu. Bill married Dorothy Flynn June 5, 1948. They would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary next month.

Bill worked for Anderson Publishing from 1951 through his retirement in 1995. He served as vice president of the company and founded its criminal justice division. He was a member of the Pendleton County School Board for eight years and served on the Boston Union Church Foundation board of trustees.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Louis Eugene and Mildred Bradford Simon and brothers, Robert “Bob” Simon and Bradford Simon.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are children, Vicki (Bill) Simon, Jim Simon and Becky Boxall, both of Butler and Lisa Simon, Lexington; and grandchildren, Hannah Simon, Brandon (Cielle) Ward, Shane Ward, Max Simon and Simon Boxall; and great-grandchildren Jordan, Tyler, Aiden and Gavin.
