|The Aviation Museum has new hours|
The Aviation Museum of Kentucky has new hours of operation for the summer tourism season.
The museum will be open for guests Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.; 1 until 5 p.m. on Sundays and will be closed on Mondays. Guests can contact the museum for current admission rates at 859-231-1219 or visit the website at www.avaitionky.org. These times will be in effect until further notice.
"We want the museum to be a destination for family enjoyment, for guests from the Commonwealth or from anywhere!" Said museum president Gerry van der Meer. "There is something here for guests of any age."
The Aviation Museum of Kentucky has a replica of the first airplane built and flown in Kentucky in 1908. There are exhibits on women in aviation and the Kentucky Air National Guard. Aircraft on display include an A-4 Skyhawk, the same type flown by Senator John McCain during his military service, an F-4 Phantom, the same type flown by "ace" pilots with five victories in the Vietnam War; and an F-14 Tomcat, the same type of US Navy plane made famous in the feature film "Top Gun."
The Aviation Museum of Kentucky is also home to the Kentucky Aviation Hall of Fame, which has honored citizens of the Commonwealth for their aeronautical achievements since 1996. The museum is located at 4029 Airport Road at Blue Grass Airport in Lexington.
