Pendleton County celebrates community wide Veterans Day

Veterans Day contest winners were honored by the American Legion, pictured from left: Southern Elementary fifth grade student and poster contest winner Zach Wyatt, Northern Elementary kindergarten student and coloring contest winner Macie Peoples, Southern Elementary second grade student and coloring contest winner Reed Buntain and American Legion Commander Bruce Westbrook.

Pendleton County High School junior D. Morgan Bay performed "Taps" to conclude the ceremony.

A community wide celebration of Veterans Day was conducted in the PCHS auditorium at 3 p.m. on November 11, 2012. The PCHS Band, under the direction of Ian Insko, played as the veterans entered the auditorium under a sword arch created by the NJROTC Cadets. There was a Presentation of the Colors by the NJROTC Cadets. The National Anthem was performed by the Southern Elementary Chorus under the direction of Theresa Adams. Superintendent of Pendleton County schools Anthony Strong led a Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. American Legion Post 109 Chaplain Shelby McDowell gave the opening prayer.
