|American Legion to honor past commander|
The American Legion Hardin-Browning Post 109 will be honoring their past commander the late Ray Hammond on Sunday, October 28.
A meal will be served after the dedication in the hall.
The Post members will be having a dedication of a black granite bench with Hammond's photo on it that will be placed in front of the hall. Hammond was post commander from 1998 until 2011. He past away last year after a battle with cancer.
Hammond took the job when the attendance of the organization was low. He and the other members worked very hard to increase the number of veterans in the organization. Their hard work paid off. Whenever a veteran passed away the members of Post 109 were there to give that veteran a full military funeral.
All of his hard work and the others proved to be outstanding as so many other counties called to have our veterans come and give a full military funeral for their fallen veterans.
"Hammond gave a 110 percent at any thing he did and he gave that and more of his time and love for Post 109 and its veterans, "said Outlook Editor Debbie Dennie. "He loved every minute of it."
Post 109 now will dedicate and honor him with this bench for all of his hard work and dedication he gave to the American Legion Hardin-Browning Post 109.
