|Bonita Bonar running for Butler City Council|
My name is Bonita Bonar and I am running for Butler City Council. I grew up in Falmouth and have lived here in Butler for the last 5 years. I attended Pendleton County schools and graduated in 1987. I received my BS from Texas State University and my MS in Education from Western Kentucky University.
I have worked in technology and education for the last 20 years, both in K-12 and higher education. I am currently working as a technical editor for Informatica, a software company located in Redwood City, California. With this position, I have the benefit of working from my home.
Growing up in Falmouth, my father, Cliff Bonar, was a long-time city councilman. I used to tote along with him to the monthly meetings. I remember lively discussions, lots of coffee and tons of smoke (pre-smoking ban). One thing that stands out most in my memory, though, is the sense of accomplishment amongst the group when issues were resolved and improvements happened for the city.
Butler is a community of hard-working, caring people. I enjoy the benefits of living in this small town and appreciate the time and energy of those that contribute to the city. Like all cities, though, it has its share of issues. After years of listening to and reflecting on these issues, I decided to run for council.
I want to be a part of the solution for these issues that face my community. I want to be involved and help my city grow and prosper. I want to celebrate our community’s victories and band together with fellow citizens to work through its defeats.
My goal, if elected, is to work toward a better Butler. Through communication and involvement I am committed to working toward improving our sense of community and preparing our city for a vital future. Thank you for your consideration.
