Elizabeth Florence, 87 Print E-mail

Elizabeth Vater Florence, 87,  formally of Campbell Co., passed away Thursday, September 13, 2012, at the home of her daughter Linda French, Cox's Creek.

She was born on June 25, 1925 near Grants Lick and was the oldest child of  the late Virgil and Gertrude Sine Vater. She married Frank Florence Jr., in 1943, who preceded her in death in 2004. Elizabeth graduated from Campbell Co. High School in 1943 and later from the University of Louisville. She accepted Christ and was baptized in Phillips Creek in the Grants Lick Baptist Church in 1935 when she was ten years old and was a faithful Christian until the day she passed. She was a retired elementary teach and her husband a Baptist minister. His first church was KentoBoo Baptist in Florence and he retired from the First Baptist Church in Cold Spring in 1981. Besides those two churches he also pastored several other churches in Kentucky, mostly in Louisville. From 1971-1973  the Florences were missionary associates in Bogota, Columbia. Elizabeth served as church pianist and organist at several churches where her husband preached. She was an amateur artist and painted the  baptistry scene at the Lynn Acres Baptist Church in Louisville where her husband pastored for 12 and 1/2 years. She also won first prize at the county fair with her paintings.

Surviving are children, Terry Florence, English, Ind., Linda French, Cox's Creek, Nancy Whitlock, Taylorsville; siblings, Rev. Virgil Vater Jr., Washington,  Pauline Wharton, New Market, Ala., Jacqueline Warner, Florence and Raymond Vater, Monticello;  grandchildren, Alan, Matthew, Ronda, Mark, Aaron, Rachael, Rebecca, Grand and Grey;  great-grandchildren, Allison, Chase, Luke, Kobe, Jake, Haylee, Michael, Andrew and Alexander.

Funeral services were held on Monday, September, 17, 2012 at Grants Lick Baptist Church.

Interment took place at the Oakland Cemetery.

Peoples Funeral home served the family.
