Empty nest syndrome is something that we most commonly hear about afflicting parents of a certain age. Their last child has finally left home to go off and start his or her own life, and the parents are left with an empty house and face the end of their time as active parents. Much is made of this time in life. Parents are told that they are entering a second phase of life; they can retire, move into a smaller home, travel or make new friends. The opportunities are boundless. While some people do have trouble adjusting, many make the most of this chance.
