Catherine Razor, 90 Print E-mail

Catherine Virginia (Comer) Razor, 90, of New Castle, Indiana, passed away June 20, 2012, in Atlanta, Ga.

She was born on November 6, 1919, at home, in Bracken County, she was the oldest daughter of the late Dr. B.N. (Bertis Nathaniel) Comer, MD and Edna Edris (Wymore) Comer, Falmouth. Catherine Virginia Comer and Arthur Jesse Razor Jr. were united in marriage on June 2, 1944 at the Falmouth Methodist Church, Falmouth. Arthur was serving in the Navy in World War II at this time. They were married for 63 years. Catherine Virginia graduated from Falmouth High School and the Western College for Women, Oxford, Ohio and University of Kentucky with a Bachelor of Arts in Home Economics. While Arthur was in the Navy in World War II, Catherine Virginia graduated from Columbia University, New York, New York with a masters in Nutrition.  At the end of World War II when Arthur got out of the Navy, they moved to Las Vegas, N.M, where Catherine Virginia had her first teaching assignment while Arthur (A.J.) attended college. After one year in New Mexico, they moved to Georgetown. There Catherine Virginia taught at Georgetown College while Arthur went to the University of Kentucky on the G.I. bill. Upon Arthur's graduation from the University of KY on June 1950, they moved to New Castle, Ind. Arthur had a teaching assignment in a nearby community and Catherine Virginia began teaching Home Economics (nutrition and cooking) in New Castle Jr. High School's seventh grade.  She retired in New Castle, Ind. in 1983(?) after 36 years of teaching. She enjoyed people, always had a smile and was loved by many. Catherine Virginia was a 50 year plus member of Eastern Star, New Castle O.E.S. # 116 in New Castle, Ind.and a 50 year plus member of White Shrine of Jerusalem, Esther # 14 of Muncie, Ind. She also was a member of Beauceant, Assembly # 226, Columbus, Ind. and Amaranth, Court # 1 in Indianapolis, Ind. For over 45 years Catherine Virginia was a member of First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, in New Castle, Ind., while residing with her daughter and son-in-law, Edna Ruth and Ron Spruill Sr., Catherine Virginia faithfully attended Grace Atlanta Bible Church in Norcross, Ga. for the last several years.

Preceding her in death in addition to her parents were  husband, Arthur Jesse (A.J.) Razor Jr.; sister, Pauline Wymore (Victor) Moore, Cincinnati; and her youngest son, GySgt. Comer Vincent (Jacqueline) Razor, U.S.M.C., Ret. of Lawrenceville, Ga.

Surviving are daughters, Edna Ruth (Ron) Spruill, Chattanooga, Tenn. and Dr. Catherine Pauline Marian (Christopher) Modjeski, D.D.S. of Aptos, Calif.; and son,  Arthur Nathaniel (Clara) Razor, Esq. of Dania Beach, Fla.; grandchildren, Ronnie "Ronald Eugene" (Beth) Spruill, Jr.,  Ooltewah, Tenn. and James Arthur (LaDonna) Spruill, Chattanooga, Tenn., Sgt. Adam Bertis (serving in Afghanastan)(Nicole Zittle) Razor of Ft. Lewis, Wash.,  Lorelei Elaine (Danny) Razor- Dodd, Lawrenceville, Ga., Timothy Nolan Razor and Paris Michelle Razor both of Dania Beach, Fla.; step-grandchildren, Kristel Roe Wunderlin, Keara Joy (Justin) Deans, Kory Steven Wunderlin and Kasey Scot Wunderlin, Lawrenceville, Ga.;  great-grandchildren, Ally Marie Spruill, Isaac James Spruill and Elias Jones Spruill of Chattanooga, Tenn, Caleb Jaden Spruill of Ooltewah, Tenn, Jared Daniel Dodd and Alexandra Elaine Dodd, Lawrenceville, Ga., Lukas Vincent Razor, Ft. Lewis, Wash.; one great-granddaughter, to arrive August 2012, Vanessa Marie Elaine Razor, of Ft. Lewis, Wash.; step-great-granddaughter, Suzanne Emel, Ft. Lewis, Wash; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Friday, July 13, 2012 with Eastern Star Services is at 7:30 p.m. and memorial services will be 11 a.m., Saturday July 14, 2012,  officiated by pastor, Matt Kasper, The Grace Atlanta Bible Church, Norcross, Georgia 30071.

Interment by Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth, will take place at 11 a.m., Monday, July 16, 2012 at the Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth, officiated by, son- in- law, Ron E. Spruill Sr.
