Pendleton County High School tennis had a strong run of KHSAA State appearnces going till covid outbreak in the spring of 2020 resulted in the cancellation of the state meet.
This year, the doubles teams will be among the favorites to grasp one of the four qualifying spots for state and four individuals will look to make regional their tournament and make their appearance at state. Regionals start on Wednesday, May 19 and will run throughout the weekend depending on weather. They are to be played at Campbell County High School.
Katelin Aulick and Lilly Brinkdoepke have only a lone loss to Campbell County among regional competition this year. A #2 seeding would put them opposite of the Camels in the bracket and with continued play, a run to the finals could be in the cards for the duo.
The boys side have two doubles teams that are looking to make noise in a loaded boys doubles field. Eric Hurst and Jordan Pearson have played #1 doubles throughout the season and only lost to Mason County and Bourbon County’s #1 doubles team. There is a good chance that they will received a top 4 seeding.
Tommy Nitschke and Tredyn Thomas have been playing #2 doubles throughout the season and are undefeated against the #2 doubles teams of other schools in the regioni. The question they have to answer to grab a state tournament berth is can they hold serve against the other schools’ #1 teams when they match up with them on the tennis courts at region.
Emmie Dunn and Ally Hall have had a good season as #2 Ladycat doubles and will be the second female doubles team from PCHS. On the singles side, Maddie Duff has shown great improvement this season as she has met up with some amazing talent from 9th and 10th region competition this season according to Coach Lisa Feltner.
On the boys side, Mason Hardy, #1 sinles, also has shown great improvement.
Feltner pointed out, “this season he played Mason County same player at beginning and end of season and improved by winning a set and losing in a super tie break in the end of season match.”
Shelby King on the girls side and David Hurst on the boys side will also be playing in the individual regional tournament.
