The PCHS Track and Field team had a great day at the Track and Field 2A Region 4 competition on Saturday, May 18th at Henry Clay High School. Covington Catholic, Bourbon County, Lexington Catholic, Harrison County, Franklin County, Pendleton County, Lloyd, and Western Hills competed against each other at the regional meet. The boys’ team placed 6th with 27 points.
Junior Tyler Redden placed 1st in shot put with a throw of 42 feet, 6 inches and placed first in discus with a personal record throw of 132 feet, 4 inches. “Overcoming a severe ankle sprain was a major setback this season,” said Redden. “Once I realized my potential to win, I made every throw count despite some continued discomfort. I am looking forward to state and will try my absolute best to prove to myself and others what hard work accomplishes. I hope to place at the state meet.” Other point earners for the boys’ team were Lucas Dennison who placed 5th in the long jump, Kaiden Espelage who placed 6th in the triple jump, and Brayden Tucker who placed 6th in the 400 meter dash. The 4 X 800 meter relay team consisting of Tanner Morris, Klaber Wolfe, Levi Wolfe, and Ben Brossart placed 5th while the 4 X 100 meter relay team consisting of Lucas Dennison, Brayden Tucker, Evan Stewart, and Sam Hodge placed 6th. Junior Jayla McIlvain scored all the points for the girls’ team. She placed 5th in shot put and 4th in discus while attaining a personal record in discus. Several other students had their best performances of the year, including Shawn Redden at discus and Kylee Murray in the 100 and 200 meter dash, and Baylee Fields in the 400 meter dash.
The Unified Team had a successful day as well. In the Unified 2 X 50 meter relay, Jeffery Simpson and Jamison Tucker placed 2nd while Ruby Mullins and Kaiden Espelage placed 3rd. In the Unified 4 x 100 meter relay, Jamison Tucker, Jeffery Simpson, Kaiden Espelage, and Ruby Mullins placed 1st while Cataline Furman, Brian Lynch, Tevin Mudd, and Aryanna Soden placed 2nd. In the Unified 2 X 200 meter relay, Jeffery Simpson and Jamison Tucker placed 2nd while Tevin Mudd and Klaber Wolfe placed 3rd. In the Unified long jump, Tevin Mudd and Klaber Wolfe placed 1st, Ruby Mullins and Kaiden Espelage placed 2nd, and Jeffery Simpson and Jamison Tucker placed 3rd. In the Unified shot put, Ruby Mullins and Tyler Redden placed 1st, Tevin Mudd and Klaber Wolfe placed 2nd, and Dylan Beckett and Shawn Redden placed 3rd. “I am very proud of the growth our Unified athletes have shown since the start of the season,” said Coach Jennifer Redden. “Our partner athletes are very dedicated and made our Unified team amazing. I can always depend on them. I can’t wait to see how well everyone does at state.”
The top two competitors in the region have an automatic bid to state. There are also 10 at-large bids. At this time, the PC track and field team has ten competitors headed to state at the University of Kentucky on May 31st for the State 2A meet. They are Ruby Mullins, Tevin Mudd, Klaber Wolfe, Jamison Tucker, Jeffery Simpson, Kaiden Espelage, Catalina Furman, Brian Lynch, Tyler Redden, and Aryanna Soden. “The PC track team competed well at the regional meet. It was our first time competing at Henry Clay High School now that Scott is no longer in 2A,” said head Coach Sara Remley. “It was a beautiful day for the Region 4 competition. I am so proud of all out athletes and all their hard work and dedication throughout the season.”
