The Pendleton County Ladycats golf team put together a solid effort at the 8th Region Tournament held at Eagle Creek Country Club on Sept. 29 where they finished third overall with two players qualifying for the state tournament.
Senior Emilie Bertram and freshman Cailyn Harper posted rounds of 82 and 88 respectively to earn their spot at the state tournament. For Bertram, it'll be her fourth appearance and for Harper it is her first. This will mark the 14th consecutive year in which Pendleton County has sent at least one player to state competition.
“It feels like a great accomplishment qualifying for state, going into this tournament I had no idea I would be where I am now. Being able to have a chance at state as a freshman is unbelievable and a goal of mine," Harper said.
“For those 18 holes I played, I was proud of myself and how well I finished. I had a few miss hits here and there but I recovered well. Noting that I had a soccer game previous to the tournament I was proud of the outcome," she added.
The Ladycats shot 378 overall finishing third behind tournament champion Grant County (331) and runner-up Owen County (342). Second-year head coach Rob Bertram was very pleased with his teams effort and poise under pressure.
"The girls put in another great day of golf in the regional. They were all in control of their golf ball for most of the day. Now, we look forward to state play," he said.
Bertram and Harper will travel to the Bowling Green County Club when play begins on Oct. 9. KHSAA has updated tee times with the two Ladycats teeing off on different sides of the course at approximately the same time. Harper will tee off at 12:30 p.m. CST on #10 while Bertram tees off on #1 at 12:15 p.m.
