Ladycats Golf makes big strides at Beechwood Invitational

The Pendleton County Ladycats golf team saw big improvements in scoring following their performance at the Beechwood Invitational held at Pioneer Golf Course on July 28.

The Ladycats were led by Taylor Bruener, who fired a new career best score of 76 tying her for fifth overall out of 80 competitors. Other scores for Pendleton County were Laci Tackett with a 125, Anna Pugh turning in a 128 and Lilly Jones with a 148.

Ladycats head coach Adam Bruener spoke on how impressed he was in the teams improvement and in handling some adversity caused by mother nature.

"When comparing our scores from the Owen County tournament, I was most impressed by the fact that we played Pioneer at about 400 yards longer than the course we played at Owen County which put the odds against us to beat our scores from the week prior. To add to that, we had a storm delay in the middle of the round which changed the course conditions and our girls adapted well to the change in conditions. The lower air pressure kept the ball from going as far and the greens slowed down but our girls managed to adapt and show great improvement from the week prior," Bruener explained.

"Taylor did a great job rebounding from the previous tournament and was able to keep her composure after a triple bogey early in the round. Laci continues with a strong iron game and has been working on her driver in the tee box which will ultimately lead to lower scores. Once Laci is firing on all cylinders there’s no doubt she’ll beat her personal best score that she attained at our first tournament. Anna was able to shave 26 strokes off of her previous score from our previous tournament, and Lilly was able to shave 25 strokes off of her previous score from our previous tournament. Both Lilly and Anna have shown remarkable improvement and have approached the game with a high level of maturity for their age and experience level," Bruener added.

The Ladycats will compete next on August 7 when they take part in the Crosstown Classic at A.J. Jolly.
