Well the big question was finally answered last week as Kyle Busch announced he would be driving for RCR next season. Both sides seem to have moved past their problems of the past. Austin Dillon looks like the one that got the deal started by mentioning the idea to his grandfather. Busch looked like a weight had been taken off his shoulders during the press conference. It is hard for me to believe, but it just didn’t seem like Joe Gibbs was really wanting Busch back as a driver. Busch even said he would take a cut in pay and still Gibbs didn’t bite. Richard Childress on the other hand, already offered Kyle’s son, Brexton, a future contract to drive for RCR and Busch will be sitting in a Chevy next season. Toyota even said they didn’t want to lose Busch from their stable of drivers, but Gibbs still failed to make a move. So not only do they lose Busch as a driver, but also KBM in the truck series. This will really hurt Toyota as Busch’s team has dominated the truck scene.
The new schedule for 2023 was released and the Chicago Street Race is on there, scheduled for Sunday, July 2 making a total of six road races.
Bristol at night brought about a lot of nightmares for playoff drivers affecting 14 of the 16 drivers. Blown front right tires, loss of power steering, and bouncing cars impacted who made the playoffs and who did not.
Kevin Harvick was in until a tire came off in the pits then he was out. Kyle Busch looked strong early and was in until he blew his second engine in three weeks, putting him out. Tyler Reddick and Austin Dillon were walking a fine line to get in until both were caught in a 12 car pileup; both were out.
Although not playoff eligible, Brad Keselowski looked to become the next new winner leading 109 laps, but Bristol bit him. While in the lead his right front tire went flat on lap 414.
So Chris Buescher, who drives for Keselowski ended up being the 19th different winner this season.
NASCAR needs to get the Next Gen Car fixed or they may end up with a driver revolt on their hands.
What does the Roval hold for next week?
