The battle of U.S. 27

The Battle of US 27 ended with a 41-12 Bishop Brossart victory. It was the Wildcats debut at the new Mustang Athletic Complex. Opened in 2019, the Cincinnati Bengals donated $200,000 to help aid the construction of the project.
After a scoreless first quarter, both teams struck while the iron was hot. Senior fullback Caleb Rogers punched in a short rushing touchdown to put the Wildcats on the board. The Wildcats weren’t able to convert on their two-point attempt. The Wildcats ended the first half down 14-6.
In the third quarter, offensive coordinator Kyle Pettit pulled a trick out of his hat having junior quarterback Gary Baker hit junior running back Coen Fuller on a long pass play that resulted in a touchdown. Baker nearly connected on a similar play intended for Tredyn Thomas earlier in the game. The Wildcats once again failed on their two-point conversion. The score was 21-12 at the end of the third quarter.
From that point on, the Mustangs dominated. Injuries to key players slowed the Wildcats offensive progress and created holes at important positions on the defense. Brossart scored 20 unanswered points to claim a commanding victory over their rivals.
The Wildcats will face Powell County next week at home  at 7:30 p.m. on November 6. An earlier victory over Lewis County put them in a good position for a playoff spot.
