Phyllis Kay Blades, 72

Phyllis Kay Blades, 72, of Falmouth, passed away on Friday, April 23, 2021 at the Hospice of St. Elizabeth Health Care in Edgewood, KY. Born on April 25, 1948 in Falmouth, she was a daughter of the late Russell Howard King and Naomi Kathryn Hamilton. On September 10, 1966, she married Teddy Blades and her dear husband of 54 years survives her passing. “Kay” was a familiar face in the Pendleton County community, working at the former Dairy Queen in the 1960’s and working during the Christmas season at the former R. Risk Arnold’s Store and later the A & F Variety Store in Falmouth.  In 1982, Kay earned her Associate Degree in Nursing from Northern Kentucky University and later that same year started working on the Medical/Surgical Department at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Edgewood.  After two years, she transferred to the Emergency Department, serving there for the next 20 years until a stroke forced her early retirement.  Kay’s faith and family were at the center of her life.   She loved to quilt, a hobby learned from her late mother Kathryn, and she produced some beautiful quilts which will always be cherished by her family.  Every day Kay found time to work with her flowers and plants, pruning, planting, watering, and providing the tender loving care that made their home and yard so bright and cheery.  A lifelong member of the Elvis fan club, Kay started writing to him in the early 1960’s, and she has received numerous cards and letters over the years.
In addition to her husband Teddy, she is survived by her son, Stephen M. (Paula) Blades of Berry, KY; four grandchildren: Jacqueline Kay Blades, Erin Victoria Blades, Miranda Ann English, and Robert William English; sisters  Barbara (King) Anderson and Bernadine (King) Bell; brothers  Danny King and Jeff King; and a host of extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her son Teddy G. Blades, Jr;  four siblings:  Nitro (King) Spencer, Howard (Bozy) King, Sue (King) Hensley, and Carmen King; and her beloved dog Mia.
