James M. “Modock” Morton, passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood. He was born in Bardstown, KY on May 6, 1946, the son of the late William Sale and Mary Riley Morton. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Chuck Morton, and sister Mary Morton Gibson.

Modock was a 1965 graduate of Falmouth High School and an avid fisherman. He was a United States Navy Corpsman Medic in Vietnam and an American Legion Post 109 member. He was a retired Union Sprinkler Fitter with Local 669. For almost 45 years he was a friend of Bill W. and Dr. Bob.

Survivors include his wife Sandy Wright Morton, daughters Lana Jo Morton, Jaime (Tommy) Keeton, and Jill Morton, siblings Kathryn Lawson, Tommy Morton, Patty Mains, Joe Morton and Debi Morton, grandson Jesse Keeton, numerous nieces and nephews and his fur grandbabies Zarby Dog and Murdal Cat.

 Visitation will be held from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Friday, December 22, 2023, at Peoples Funeral Home in Butler. Funeral Service will immediately follow at 12:30 p.m., also at the funeral home.  

Modock’s final resting place will be in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North in Williamstown, KY.

Memorials can be made to the American Legion Post 109.
