David Lee Mattox, 86, of Ewing, KY passed away of a heart attack during a scheduled surgery on Wednesday, March 16th, 2022 at UK Hospital in Lexington.
He was born in Butler, KY on September 25, 1935, son of the late James Robert Mattox and Clara Mains Mattox. David worked several jobs in his life, but the one he probably enjoyed the most was dairy farming and raising tobacco. He spent about 15 years milking cows and sharecropping to support his family when his kids were young. He enjoyed his time on the tractor, whether plowing or bailing hay, and spent many hours laughing while stripping tobacco for himself and other local farmers in Pendleton and Fleming Counties. David also worked many years at Butler Products running milling machines to make trailer dolly wheels. He was employed there until the factory closed. In 2013 David earned his GED at age 76 and received the Fleming County Fiscal Court Award for Outstanding Student.
David is preceded in death by his brother James Thomas Mattox; former spouse Reba Gillespie Martin; stepdaughter Vickie Wolfe; step-grandson Grayson Wolfe, and step-granddaughter Zoe Tackett.
Along with his wife Joye Tackett Mattox, David is survived by his children David A. (Lisa F.) Mattox and Robert D. (Lisa S.) Mattox; stepsons William A. (Mallory) Wolfe, Stacey (Tammy) Tackett, Brandon (Misty) Tackett, and Aaron Tackett; and his sister Virginia (Richard) Goetz. David had 20 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
David’s last wishes were to have no services. He chose to be cremated.
