Darla Kay Wright, "Kay", died peacefully on November 30 in Lexington, KY at the too-young age of 70.
Kay was born in 1952 in Falmouth, KY to Hilda Moore Wright. Kay moved to Lexington after graduating from Pendleton Memorial High School in 1970. Professionally, she retired after teaching for 25 years at Eastern Kentucky University and had a second career in real estate before her retirement in 2015. However, her passions were her hobbies and her children and grandchildren. She was a co-founder of Ecumenical Preschool in Lexington, and an organizer of "Eagle" a meet-up group for adults in Lexington with Asperger's/Autism. A talented writer, Kay spent much of her free time taking creative writing classes and working on her own novel. She was also an avid gardener and loved to travel.
As is true for most mothers, her pride came from raising her two sons, Michael Thomas Springate of Lexington, KY, and Matthew Benjamin Springate of Ipswich, MA. Her fondest moments were lunches out with Michael and her trips to visit Matthew and his family.
In addition to her sons, Kay is survived by her mother Hilda; her brother Keith Wright; her two grandsons, Lucas Sebastian Springate and Daniel Mateo Springate; and her daughter-in-law Juana Lucia Springate Escobar of Ipswich, MA.
A visitation was held at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home on Monday, December 5, 2022.
Donations on behalf of Kay can be made to the Susan G. Komen organization.
