PCHS grad comes home to open Burnouts Barber Shop

FALMOUTH — Even though Garrad Dennie moved out of the county following graduation, he spent a lot of time coming back to the area to visit family and friends.

After graduating from the American School of Barbering in Florence, the 2018 PCHS graduate began working in Florence, then Lexington, and most recently in Cold Spring.

But the family-oriented young man wanted to come back to his hometown community and began looking for a place to set up a barber shop.

When the property at 214 Main St. became available, Dennie pursued giving the place a facelift with the help of his parents, Gary and Dina Dennie, brother Joshua Plummer, and sister and brother-in-law Sadie and Logan Turner. The team put up drywall, painted, added finishing touches and did a LOT of cleaning, according to Dennie. Even his niece Hayden Turner was involved in the cleaning crew.

Local contractors Hensley Plumbing and TC Electric got the plumbing and electric established for the barber.

Dennie said that he picked up the nickname Burnout “as a hooligan riding motorcycles in Lexington.” While doing burnouts in parking lots was fun, Dennie said that knew he needed to better himself, which is why he decided to go barber school, and why he now owns his own barbershop.

Burnouts Barbershop is across from the courthouse in the former Ruby’s Beauty Salon building. Dennie offers haircuts, haircuts with beard service, line up — working with beard or hair line using trimmers or a straight razor, full head shave with a straight razor, and a hot towel shave — full shave on face.

Burnouts is open 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, and is closed on Wednesdays. The business welcomes walk-ins, or appointments can be made by phone, the Burnouts Facebook page, and theCut app.

Dennie said he is thankful for the people who have come to support his business, even having clients come from Campbell and Grant Counties.

“I have truly been blessed,” Dennie said.
