Verne Epperson, 84

Union — Verne Epperson, 84, of Union, Kentucky, passed away Monday, July 21, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Florence.

Verne was born July 21, 1941, the son of the late Walter Adrian and Frances Corrine Spicer Epperson. He graduated from Grant County High School in 1959 and went on to build a life marked by dedication to family, faith, hard work,and community. On April 12, 1980, Verne married the love of his life, Bonnie Epperson, at First Church of Christ, where Pastor L.D. Campbell officiated. A member of First Church of Christ since 1979, Verne was a lifelong Christian whose faith was a guiding force in his life.

A true entrepreneur, Verne owned and operated a Dairy Queen for 10 years before building a new restaurant on its site. He bought the beloved Colonial Cottage and owned it for 30 years. Known for its warm hospitality and home-cooked meals, Colonial Cottage became a staple in the Northern Kentucky community under his leadership.

Verne was also one of the founding fathers of Heritage Bank, where he served with distinction on the Board of Directors for 34 years. His vision and leadership were instrumental in the bank’s growth and success.

He was committed to giving back to the community, sponsoring Knot Hole Baseball teams for many years and supporting local youth sports.

Verne had a zest for life and a long list of passions. He was an avid motorcyclist for over 50 years and a devoted fan of Kentucky basketball. He loved boating, reading, and was an enthusiastic runner for many years. One of his favorite things to was dining out with family and friends, enjoying good food and conversation.

He and Bonnie spent over 20 wonderful years at their vacation home in Sarasota, Florida, and also cherished their time at their homes in Gatlinburg and Sevierville, Tennessee. He especially loved traveling out west, taking in the scenic beauty and adventure.

Verne will be remembered for his kind heart, generous spirit, unwavering faith, and the lasting impact he made on his family, friends, and community.

Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, was his brother, Howard Epperson.

Surviving him are his wife, Bonnie Epperson; sisters-in law, Jurene Bockerstette, Joyce Epperson; nephews, Jason Bockerstette, Hunter, Brandon Epperson, Tony (Lisa) Epperson and their daughter Serina.

Services were held Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Peoples Funeral Home, in Butler.

Burial took place at Butler Cemetery.
