WALTON — Ryan Moore, formerly of Falmouth, retired from the U.S. Air Force after 23 1/2 years of service.

Moore, a 1996 Pendleton County High School graduate, signed up for the Air Force in December 2001 after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorists attack on the United States. He served active duty until February 2006.

Following active duty, Moore transferred to the Air Force Reserves and has spent the remaining time with an AMMO troop “working on munitions items, bombs, missiles, etc. I am a munitions systems specialist,” Moore said.

AMMO is an acronym for aircraft munitions maintenance organization.

Some of the things that stand out in Master Sgt. Moore’s career is the traveling and working “with some of the best people on the planet,” he said.

He has been to Japan, Korea, Italy, Germany, Afghanistan and all over the United States.

“The world is a very big place, and there’s a lot to see out there.”

Moore said he also cherishes the lifetime friendships he has made during his Air Force career.

“I’d recommend a career in the miliary as a full-time job or a side hustle in the Guard or Reserves to anyone.”

Moore and his wife, Rebecca, live in Walton. Moore is the son of Rita and Rodney Moore of Falmouth.

Following retirement, Moore said he will continue in his civilian job at Lockheed Martin as a Blackhawk helicopter mechanic.
