Butler — James E. Maxwell, 84, of Butler, passed away June 21, 2025, at his home.
James was born March 1, 1941, to the late David Francis and Susie Jane Tucker Maxwell.
James was a proud member of the Pendleton County Sportsman’s Club for over 60 years. He was honored as a Kentucky Colonel and was an avid horseshoe player. James also enjoyed playing Euchre, trap shooting, fishing, and hunting, all of which reflected his love for the outdoors and camaraderie with friends.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were 12 brothers and sisters.
Surviving him are his wife, Margaret Maxwell; sons, James (Sherri), R.L. (Violet), Leland (Jacqueline), Wayne (Linda) Maxwell; daughter, Geneva (Bill) Carter; grandchildren, Bradley (Cassie) Maxwell, Valerie Maxwell, Clarissa (Tony) Wilson, Malia Maxwell, Mason (Taylor) Maxwell, Stephanie Carter, Adrienne Hedges; and multiple great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 24, 2025, from 12 - 2:00 p.m., at Peoples Funeral Home, in Butler. Funeral service will immediately follow, also at the funeral home.
Burial will take place at Butler Cemetery.
