The Pendleton County Ladycats Fastpitch Softball team concluded their 2025 regular season last week and honored their two senior captains, Madison Verst and Logan Cooper.
The team won two of three in notching wins over Grant and Bracken County before falling to Madison Central. On May 12, the Ladycats defeated Grant County 2-0. Prior to the start of the game the team recognized Verst and Cooper along with their families for "Senior Night". Pendleton County would go ahead 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning and that would be all of the offense the club would need as they went onto earn a shutout victory. Verst delivered the big hit as she knocked in the two Ladycat runs. Kinly Cooper went 2-3 on the day and starting pitcher Hannah Spaulding threw a complete-game shutout allowing just two hits.
On May 13, the Ladycats hosted Bracken County and enjoyed an 11-1 blowout win. Verst led the offense going 4-4 with two RBI's while Logan Cooper went 2-5 with two RBI's. Mylie Honnert was 3-4 in the game and Hannah Spaulding was 2-3 with two runs driven in. The Ladycats traveled to face Madison Central on May 15 and fell 1-0. Verst went 2-3 with a double during the loss.
Ladycats head coach Jessica Verst shared these thoughts about her squad as they wrap up the regular season and also her two seniors.
"We felt like we had a great week to help get us ready for the postseason. We played some tough competition and close games to help us get prepared. Madison and Logan have left their mark on the softball program. It has been great to watch them from improve and grow and take on more of a leadership role this year. They both have had some great careers and are going to do some pretty impressive things in the future. You couldn't ask for a better two kids to lead our team this year," Verst said.
The team now turns its attention to the 38th District Tournament which will be played at Harrison County High School. This year's tournament will be completed all on the same day. The tournament took place on May 19 but due to press deadline, full results will be found in next week's edition. The Ladycats will face Nicholas County in the first round and if they advance will go onto play the winner of the Harrison County/ Robertson County match-up. The Ladycats will be seeking their first district title since 2022. A first round win will also secure a spot in the 10th Region Tournament which will be held at Moreland Field in Falmouth.
