Falmouth mayor resigns

police chief fills in temporarily

FALMOUTH — Luke Price has resigned as mayor of Falmouth. Police Chief Marty Hart is temporarily filling the position.

In a prepared statement late Monday, Price said, “I have accepted a position in my personal career that will impact my time as mayor. So at this time, it is with a very heavy heart that I have to make a decision for the betterment of my family. Therefore, effective immediately I resign from my position as Mayor Falmouth.”

City employees were informed of the resignation at a staff meeting this morning.

Price had intended to make an announcement at the regular city council meeting last Thursday, but the meeting was canceled due to a citywide power outage. Council instead will meet in special session at 7 p.m. today at city hall.

In accordance with Kentucky Revised Statutes 83A.130 (7, 8), which permits the mayor to delegate official duties and responsibilities to subordinate officers and employees, Price issued Executive Order 2025:4, transferring executive authority to Hart. This order grants the police chief the authority to perform all necessary executive functions on behalf of the city, except for those explicitly prohibited by law.

“All bonds, notes, contracts and written obligations of the city shall be executed by the designated agent as authorized through the executive order,” the order states.

This appointment takes immediate effect as of Price’s resignation and will remain in place until the Falmouth City Council appoints a successor to the office of mayor.

“The City of Falmouth extended its sincere gratitude to Mayor Price for his service and dedication to the community and assures residents that the city operations will continue without interruption during this transition period,” a release from the city states.
