Geneva F. Thompson of Latonia, KY passed away peacefully surrounded by family at St. Elizabeth Edgewood on November 28, 2024.
She was born on December 24, 1926, to the late Talmage Dewitt Ballinger and Ada Monroe Ballinger and raised in Pendleton County KY. Also preceded in her death were her husband Wallace Thompson (1956); children Roger Thompson (1960), Patricia Thompson Mullins (2013), Anthony Thompson (2020), daughter-in-law Onie Thompson, and Conley Thompson (2024). Grandchildren Todd Conley Thompson (1978), Brian Roberts (2004), and Kevin Thompson (2007).
Survivors include daughter-in-law Teresa Thompson. Grandchildren Melissa Holt, Tracy Thompson Lang, Tonya Thompson, Travis Thompson, Michael Moore, Stephen Moore, Jefferey Moore, in addition to numerous great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Geneva was one of thirteen children with one surviving brother, Donald Ballinger, one surviving sister Jewel Curtis and one sister in law Marilyn Ballinger.
Her life was faced with much tragedy with the unexpected loss of her husband, youngest child, and her father in a short period of time. She raised her 3 remaining children by herself only to outlive all her children later in life. She made the most of her life and never met a stranger. She loved her family and many friends. She loved country music, Reds baseball, and UK basketball, and BINGO. She was social and often called “a little barbie doll” as she enjoyed getting dressed up. She made the best potato salad in the family.
In her lifetime, she could recall her family’s struggle during the depression era, lived through WWII, knew what it was like when women could not vote, and in recent years survived a global pandemic without getting sick. Prior to Geneva’s passing, she resided at Rosedale Green where she quickly made new friends, enjoyed participating in all the activities and getting her hair done weekly! She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
