FALMOUTH — Trinity Southern Baptist Church, 302 Broad St., hosted a First Responder Event last Wednesday which featured a dinner for the emergency personnel and a Touch-a-Truck with several emergency vehicles for children attending.
Pastor Abram Crozier told how the first responders were invited to supper to thank them for their service to the community.
He said he also wanted to do the touch-a-truck to allow children to get up close and personal with the emergency techs, partially as a tribute to Air Evac Lifeteam 133 medical helicopter accident Oct. 7 which killed three crew members.
Parent and church member Bonnie Barlow said, “I think it’s great that we (the church) get to show our appreciation of the first responders and show the kids the people.”
She explained how her four children loved the event, “My son was falling asleep after school and woke right up when he heard it was First Responder Night.”
Isiah Crozier said that his favorite vehicle was the ambulance, because “They are cool.”
Another youth, Blake Barnhart, said that his favorites were the Jeep and the police car. “I like the generator.”
Koi Welch claimed that she loved the Jeep, because “It’s really cool, and I like the shape of it.”
Assistant Fire Chief Nick Timon said that it was wonderful getting the kids out and how they seemed to enjoy it. “It’s nice to know that we support the community, and they support us.”
Paula Allen, co-director of the children’s department, explained how the first responders were treated to a hamburger buffet “with everything they could possibly want on it,” along with a fruit tray and cookies.
