New Zion Baptist holds diaper outreach

FALMOUTH — Holly Fields, parishioner at New Zion Baptist Church in southeastern Pendleton County, said that she saw a need in her community. She knew that “nobody gets government assistance for diapers” and was worried about people who struggled to get the needed supplies for their babies.

She and her husband, Charles, are pro-life and recognize the need to support families.

At a Wednesday night Bible study, New Zion’s preacher, Bill Feltner, expressed that the church needed to get out into their community. Holly spoke up with a plan that had been “laid on my heart many years ago” — a plan to give away diapers to families.

Feltner and the church supported Holly’s vision by quickly giving donations to the cause.

Most of the diapers given away come from the pro-life diaper company Everylife.

“This company is the only pro-life company in the U.S., and they help provide diapers to families in urgent need and pregnancy resource centers in the country,” Holly said.

The first outreach took place this past summer at the church. The last two diaper giveaways were held at Ace Hardware in Falmouth.

On a cold, rainy Sept. 28, several youth and church members gave away infant diapers, toddler pull-ups and adult incontinence supplies. The group doubled the amount given away from their first time in July.

New Zion Baptist plans to continue this diaper mission at the end of each month. They offer prayers to people as they “expose the love of Jesus” to the community. The hope is to eventually expand this mission to include hygiene items and venture to Bracken County as well.

Anyone who would like to donate to this cause or who knows a family in need may reach out to the group on their New Zion Baptist Church Facebook page.

The church is located at 4661 New Zion Road, Falmouth, and holds Sunday school at 10 a.m., Sunday morning worship at 11 a.m., and Sunday evening service at 6:30 p.m., and  Wednesday night Bible study at 6:30 p.m.
