Brenda Ruth Angell Abercrombie, 79, of Falmouth, KY, passed away on September 17, 2024, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington. She will be remembered for living her faith and loving her family.
Born on June 8, 1945, in Harrison County, KY, she was the daughter of the late Walter “Pete” Angell and Dorothy Myrtle Colvin Angell. A 1963 Pendleton High School graduate, Brenda worked in many capacities during her life, serving as an administrator with the Cabinet for Families and Children for 10 years, setting up the first bookkeeping system for the Pendleton County Elementary Schools, and becoming a licensed realtor and insurance agent. Brenda’s faith guided her life in her membership at the Antioch Christian Church, and formerly at the Falmouth Christian Church. She treasured her time in fellowship with the women in the Order of the Eastern Star. Recognized as a Kentucky Colonel for over 40 years, she took part in numerous community functions and activities. Whether it was joining the choir and congregation at church or singing country music in the Kentucky Country Band, Brenda loved to share her musical gift. To her music made the good times better and brought comfort in the hard times. She even wrote a song, “Greatest Friend”, which she recorded in Nashville.
She and her first husband, James Ellis Brown, raised two children, before his untimely passing. On February 12, 1994, she married Kenneth “Kenny” Abercrombie, and her husband and best friend of 30 years, survives her passing.
In addition to Kenny, she is survived by her daughters: Natalie Brown Golfman, Laura Abercrombie Maldonado, and Kimberly Short ( James); her brother Charles Angell; 13 grandchildren blessed to have her as their “Mama”: Garret Marshall, Maddie Crawford, Kala Turner, Miranda Turner, Ashley Smith, Andrew Smith, Amber Smith, Kierstin Short, Erica Maldonado, Maria Maldonado, Brandon Maldonado, Jonathan Maldonado, and Raven Campbell; 20 great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.
She was also preceded in death by her son James Bryant Brown on December 7, 2013 and two grandsons: Anthony Gonzalez and Keith Ryan Turner.
Visitations will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, September 28, at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth and from 1 to 2 p.m. on Sunday, prior to the funeral service at 2 p.m., with Bro. Evan Meyer officiating.
Interment will take place in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Falmouth.
