FALMOUTH — Are you a woman business owner in Pendleton County, Kentucky? The Pendleton County Economic Development office is looking to celebrate and recognize the success of women-owned businesses in the area during National Women-Owned Business month in October.
With more than 14 million women-owned businesses in the United States, representing 39.1 percent of all businesses, it’s clear that women entrepreneurs are a driving force in the economy.
In Kentucky, businesses owned by women is 41.5 percent, as noted by the US Small Business Administration in 2023.
In 1988, President Reagan signed the Women’s Business Ownership Act, a pivotal moment in history that paved the way for government support for women business owners.
This act removed the requirement of male co-signers on loans for female entrepreneurs, allowing them to access much-needed funding to start and grow their businesses.
Fast forward to 2024, where women-owned businesses continue to thrive and make a significant impact on the business landscape.
The Commonwealth of Kentucky offers various programs, funding opportunities, and certifications specifically tailored to support women-owned businesses. From networking events to financial assistance, resources are available to help women entrepreneurs succeed.
