Jerry Prewitt, 74

Jerry Prewitt, a Christian, a devoted husband and father, proud grandfather, retired railroad professional, and life-long farmer, passed away on July 4, 2024, at the age of 74.

Born on February 14, 1950, Jerry lived a life marked by hard work, integrity, and a deep commitment to his family and community. In 1967, Jerry married his beloved wife Judy Griffin, and together they embarked on a partnership that spanned over five decades. Their union blessed them with five children: Melissa Prewitt, Beth Prewitt, Kerry Krom (Von), Rob Prewitt (Margaret), and Zach Prewitt. Jerry instilled the values of hard work, honesty, and integrity in his children, guiding and supporting them throughout their lives. Jerry found great joy in his nine grandchildren: Grace and Kale Krom, Reese and Remi Gannon, Olivia, Mitchell, Hanon, Madalynn, and Lainey Prewitt. He cherished the time spent with them, imparting wisdom and creating cherished memories that will endure for generations. Jerry retired in 2010 from the CSX railroad, where he worked for nearly four decades as a brakeman/switchman and later as a locomotive engineer. Outside of work, Jerry's heart was always on the farm where he and Judy raised their family. He enjoyed working with cattle and spent over 25 years growing tobacco, demonstrating his dedication to the land and his agricultural roots. Jerry was a man of strong principles and unwavering patriotism. He followed politics closely and believed strongly in civic engagement, advocating for the principles he held dear. Known for his integrity and principled stance, Jerry was a steadfast defender of his beliefs and an active participant in the democratic process.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Jim Prewitt and Dolly Titus and his brothers, Jimmy and Tom Prewitt. He is survived by his brother Mark Titus.

Services to celebrate Jerry's life were held on Tuesday, July 9 at People’s Funeral Home in Butler, KY.

Interment was held privately. Honorary pallbearers include Roger Anderson, Kenny Templeton, Billy Brumback, Bill Hart, Mark Titus, Bill Hart, Rob Prewitt, Zach Prewitt, Von Krom, Mitchell Prewitt, Kale Krom and Hanon Prewitt.

Donations may be made in Jerry’s memory to the Southern Hope Christian Church, Falmouth, KY, or to the St. Francis XavIer Cemetery Fund, Falmouth, KY. Rest in peace, Jerry Prewitt. Your spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved you.
