Geneva Florine Habermehl, 94

Geneva Florine Delaney Habermehl, 94, of Falmouth, KY, passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at the River Valley Nursing Home in Butler, KY.

Born on Feb. 16, 1929, in Pendleton County, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late John Franklin and Florine Velma Daugherty Delaney. Geneva was a lifelong  member of St. Francis Xavier Church, where she took part in many church activities. In 1946, two weeks before she graduated from Falmouth High School, First National Bank of Falmouth President George Bradford hired Geneva as a clerk, where she worked for eight years until she married Charles Habermehl on February 6, 1954. In 1957, she returned to the bank working with Mabel Bradford. While she initially resumed her duties as a bookkeeping clerk, Geneva’s work ethic, business acumen, attention to detail, and dependability served her well as she rose quickly through the ranks, completing additional schooling for professional development, and managing daily operations with then President J. Preston Field, ultimately earning the title of Assistant Cashier and FNB of Falmouth Board Secretary. Geneva garnered the respect of bank and community leadership, employees, and patrons, all of whom appreciated her wise counsel and genuine kindness. While managing the demands of her position at the bank, Geneva cared for her husband, who preceded her in death on April 14, 1982. When Fifth Third Bank acquired First National Bank, Geneva assumed a leadership role in the Falmouth branch, and she retired from Fifth Third Bank of Falmouth at the age of 71 after 57 years of service. At the center of her life, Geneva’s faith provided daily guidance for her journey, as she remained a stalwart anchor of support and encouragement for her family, friends, and employees. She received the designation of Kentucky Colonel, served as treasurer for the Pendleton County Salvation Army, and worked as a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by one sister, Patricia Delaney Sellers of Vicksburg, MI; two sisters in law:  Ruthie Laycock of Augusta, KY and Janet Delaney of Falmouth, KY; several nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters:  Mary Catherine Hetterman, Eleanor Gillespie, Dorothy Hesler, Alma Frances Crawford, and Joan Faulkner; four brothers:  John E. Delaney, Frank Delaney, and George Thomas “Tommy” Delaney, and Joe Paul Delaney; her nephew, Stephen Allen Delaney; her great nephews:  Landen Joseph Spence and Garrett Stephen Spence; her great niece, Jenna Lorraine Crawford; and her niece, Pamela Sue Colvin Crawford.

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at St. Francis Xavier Church, with Fr. Britton Hennessey officiating. The visitation preceded the service at Woodhead Funeral Home.

Interment will take place in the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Falmouth.
