Pendleton County Emergency Management Director Mike Moore sent the following communication to the Falmouth Outlook to thank those who did anything to help during last week’s winter storm:
Lots of shout-outs. It takes a total team effort to get through these types of events.
Pendleton County Road Department who worked to clear the roads in near impossible conditions. Salt does no good in temps below 20 degrees, but they were out clearing the 280 miles of county roads as best they could with the seven salt/plow trucks they have to work with.
The State Road Department who were out clearing over 175 miles of state roads in the county as best they could, as well.
Pendleton County Water District who repaired broken water lines in brutally cold conditions. They operated outside in life- threatening conditions to get this done.
Red Cross volunteers who spent two nights in the Falmouth fire station with an individual who needed to go to a warming shelter.
911 Dispatchers who ensured a continuous duty rotation making sure someone was always there to answer the call throughout the event. Two of them spent the night at dispatch to ensure they could make it on duty the next day.
Ambulance Services in both Pendleton County and Northern Pendleton districts who were staffed and ready to go throughout the event ensuring emergency medical attention to those in need.
The Falmouth Fire Department for opening up their Fire Station for a warming shelter and transporting an individual who needed to go there.
The other three organizations who volunteered their facilities as warming shelters: Trinity Baptist Church, Northern Pendleton Fire Station and Butler Police/Fire Station.
Pendleton County Search and Rescue for volunteering and being at the ready to transport individuals to the warming shelters if necessary.
Pendleton County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) for volunteering to staff our Emergency Operations Center if needed. And for preparing vehicles and other equipment for deployment if the need arose.
Law enforcement officers who worked accidents on treacherous roads and were available throughout the event to assist wherever needed.
Pendleton County Emergency Management for being a focal point in getting warming shelters set up and providing continuous information to the public throughout the event.
The Falmouth Outlook and others who shared information in trying to keep people safe and informed as much as possible.
If I forgot anyone it was unintentional.
