Masks return to Pendleton County Schools as new year begins

As of Tuesday, August 3, 2021, Mr. Joe Buerkley, Superintendent of Pendleton County Schools, notified all stakeholders that masks will be required for the start of the 2021-2022 School year. Due to the nature of the Delta variant, all those who enter any building in the district, ages two and up, will be required to wear a mask unless a "medical waiver is on file" that allows an exception.

Buerkley cites the CDC, the Kentucky Department of Public Health, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and Cincinnati Children's as the sources he has follows as he puts out this recommendation.

While he admits this is not a recommendation he had hoped to send out, Buerkley notes the increase of the Delta variant across the state and the county as the reason for the decision.

Three-foot social distancing will also be followed along with the masking requirement.
