Mary Kaye Gillespie Scaggs, 57

    Mary Kaye Gillespie Scaggs, 57, of Falmouth, KY, passed away on Monday, May 17, 2021, at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Ft. Thomas, KY.  Born on July 12, 1963,  she was a daughter of Mary Lee Gillespie and the late Norman Gillespie.  A 1982 graduate of Pendleton High School, Kaye worked as a teacher’s aid at Northern Elementary, where she impacted the lives of multiple teachers and students through her various roles.  Kaye was the friendly face greeting every student as they arrived at school each day.
    On January 31, 1987, she married James Wade Scaggs, and her best friend and soulmate of 24 years preceded her in death on Feb. 8, 2011.  At the center of their lives were their two daughters Stefanie and Sara.   Whatever the occasion, the biggest of celebrations or the most challenging of obstacles, Kaye was in the forefront, as a faithful companion on the journey, offering her homemade blend of limitless hope and hilarious antics to her girls, her extended family, her friends, and her students, always finding some way to keep them smiling. A passionate supporter of the Pendleton County Relay for Life, Kaye and her family have always worked tirelessly to support this organization and all it does for patients and their families.  Kaye was a lifelong member of St. Francis Xavier Church, where she was active in all kinds of church activities. At the heart of so many school and community events, Kaye brought so much life and fun to everything she did; she will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
    Kaye is survived by her two daughters: Stefanie Scaggs and Sara Scaggs (Adam Roseberry), all of Falmouth, KY; her mother, Mary Lee Gillespie of Falmouth, KY; her siblings:  Bonnie Windham (Reggie), Genie Gillespie (Sharon), Joyce Brown (Jim), Tony Gillespie (April), and Tammy Gillespie; and a host of extended family and friends.
    In addition to her father Norman, she was also preceded in death by two sisters:  Patricia “Patty” Courtney and Penny Gillespie King; her mother and father-in-law, James C. “Jay” and Patricia Bea “Pat” Myers Scaggs; her nephew Drew Downard; her uncle by marriage Jerry D. Myers; and her grandparents by marriage Raymond and Gertrude Mitchell Myers.
    Funeral services were held on Friday, May 21, 2021, at the Pendleton High School Gymnasium in Falmouth with Kevin Barnard and Fr. David Ludwig officiating. Special music was shared by Michael Cummins, Timmy Cummins, Bill Roseberry, and Dayton Hoskins.   Serving as pallbearers were Genie Gillespie, Tony Gillespie, Dwain Paynter, Justin Feebeck, Garrad Gillespie, Kyle Feebeck & Adam Roseberry.   The honorary pallbearers were Ben Wolfe, Tommy Weber, Justin Weber, Joe Beane, J.B. Pollard & Jason Weber.  
    Memorials are suggested to the Pendleton County Relay for Life, the Landen Joseph Spence Foundation, or for masses in memory of Kaye at St. Francis Xavier Church.  Interment took place in the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Falmouth. Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth, is caring for the family.
