25 Years Ago - July 22, 1998   The northern end of Pendleton County got a green light when the announcement was made July 16 that the Pendleton County Water District and the City of Butler had been approved to receive a U. S. Commerce Economic Development Administration grant for $1 million.

25 Years Ago -July 15, 1998 Bids for garbage collection were opened at the July 5 Butler City Council Meeting. Greg McElfresh made the motion, seconded by Lee Herald to accept Rumpke's bid for the next year, motion carried.

25 Years Ago -July 8, 1998 Hundreds of residents, along with many visitors, helped Pendleton County celebrate its 200 birthday with a huge parade and a wonderful fireworks display that evening as the grand finale and celebration ended at the Pendleton County Fairgrounds.

25 Years Ago -June 24, 1998 It's been almost 15 months since flood waters destroyed many residents' homes in Pendleton County. On June 17, Bill and Michelle Singleton, of Butler, signed the necessary papers to receive their buyout funds on their two-story home that is located on Mill Street.

25 Years Ago -June 17, 1998 Pendleton County Dispatch received a call from Matt Dean of the Coast Guard at 12:01 p.m., June 15, that a 14'-16' pleasure craft had capsized on the Ohio River near Foster Dam. At that time, the boat was at the 439.6 river marker and drifting toward Pendleton County.
